Just purchased RT-AX86U. Few Questions (please help).

I just purchased and set up the RT-AX86U router and updated stock firmware to the latest version. Is enabling QoS recommended - or is it best to just leave it off by default? I do have a TiVo Mini streaming box (Wi-Fi connected) and a couple of other streaming options. Should those be given top...

    Amplifi Alien?

Looks like it’s a preconfigured firewall. Directly from ApliiFi:

    Amplifi Alien?

Respectfully DISAGREE wholeheartedly! I’ve been using the AmpliFi Alien since March ( after purchasing and returning the Netgear RAX200) and it’s been flawless! Not a single hiccup or issue requiring a reboot or factory reset which I’ve always had to do on every Netgear routers I’ve ever owned...

Is Huawei AX3 Pro worth buying?

Say NO to Huawei and anything Chinese owned/manufactured! There’s a reason they are BANNED in the US and now in the UK among several other countries too. They steal technology from other nations and they are also reasonable claims they spy on the consumer as well. Stay away!

Unifi Dream Machine Nightmare. What to replace with

If you can find one get a Amplifi Alien router. Recently decided to switch up to AX as my R7800 router was no longer playing nice with my modem and I tried Netgear Rax200 (expensive; frequent disconnects and crappy support) and the Asus AX88U (inconsistent and poor range). Almost gave up and...

    Best Router for Smarthome/Sonos/homekit

Another help/suggestion thread and yet another Asus 86U router recommendation. I guess I should be expecting this and not be so surprised anymore.

    New wireless setup

Get a Netgear R7800 and call it a day. It’s vastly superior to the Asus 86U especially in wireless performance and stability. The 86U is junk.

    N66U Finally Getting Upgraded!

I’ve been using the R7800 with the latest stock firmware (.63) for almost 4 months now and no issues whatsoever. Not a single reboot or hiccup. Wireless performance and stability is beastly! Unfortunately couldn’t say the same when I previously owned the 86U. Constant slowdowns, reboots...

Replacement TP Link WDR4300 - Asus or Linksys

Equally priced I would still take the R7800 over the Asus RT-AX88. But at 70 € cheaper it’s a no brainer. AX routers are not fully ready yet for prime time you’ll see little to no advantages over a really good AC class router. Why spend/waste 70 € when they will basically perform the same...

Asus router warnings on privacy and security - I know it is old news but is it a concern really?

Netgear R7800 and it’s one amazing router. Best in AC class hands down and even out performs many AX routers. There’s a reason why it’s still $200+ US even after being in the market for so many years. Using stock firmware and not a single issue. Blazing fast and never needs rebooting. 74 days...

Asus router warnings on privacy and security - I know it is old news but is it a concern really?

One reason why I stopped using Asus routers. Sending out private info to a 3rd party is a huge no-no. Can’t believe some people over look this and say it’s no big deal.

    Need help finding a router!

I don’t understand why people keep recommending the Asus 86U router when there are clearly better options out there??? I don’t understand this community’s love affair with Asus routers either. I’ve gone through three 86U units before I realized that they are terrible, overrated routers that...

    R7800 or RAX40?

Agreed. I decided to stick with the R7800 because, like you said, there’s no reason to upgrade. I was looking for a reason to upgrade to the latest and the greatest when in fact I realized that I already had the best consumer router available and an upgrade would just be wasted money. If it...

Need advice on new router and/or access point

@grat_master. What country are u located? I’ve tried the Asus86U, Synology AC2600 and a TP Link AC router (model number escapes me at the moment) and the R7800 blows them all out of the water.

Need advice on new router and/or access point

I got my R7800 from Amazon for $176. Don’t think that’s twice the cost of the 86U but I could be wrong. The GUI on the R7800 is outdated and bare bones, especially compared to Merlins f/w (which I loved btw). And if you use vpn, QoS and other scripts then yes the 86U might be the way to go...

Need advice on new router and/or access point

I know that the Asus 86U is very popular here and L&LD swears by it but from my experience it's a very over-rated and subpar router. I would get constant buffering watching streaming apps and I would often have to reboot it. Sometimes page loading would just hang and take a long time to load...

    Linksys EA9500 to Asus GT-AX11000?

I’m wondering how the Linksys Velop MX5 (single unit w/o the mesh hub) compares to other AX routers like the Netgear RAX80 or the Asus RT-AX88. Most reviews have been on the dual MX10 combo. Will the MX5 performance be just as good as a single router?

    Linksys EA9500 to Asus GT-AX11000?

Chose the same exact router from Amazon. Mine’s arriving Dec. 4th. Couldn’t pass up the $299 price point. Reviews seem to be excellent for this WiFi 6 router and it looks great to boot.
