    VLANs through Multiple Ports

Thanks - in the end I answered my own question. It does not drag them along but you can easily change the assignments under interface assignments VLANS tab just like you change the main interface. Easy peasy.

    VLANs through Multiple Ports

OK - so as an update: So I have my new pfsense installation up and running and working generally the way I need/want it to. I have a Netgate 6100 box. I had used the default LAN on igc0 (a 2.5GB Port) for the installation. I have configured several VLANs (4 in total) and they are all...

    VLANs through Multiple Ports

@Tech9 - so the basic configuration went very well, but every time I try to link via the SFP port to my SG350X or SG250X from ix0 I just cannot get any traffic. I am using a SFP DAC Cable, and it seems to see the connection but on the Dashboard interfaces table I see speed Unk and tx/rx...

    VLANs through Multiple Ports

Hi, hopefully quick question - apologies if it a repeat. I have successfully set-up my 6100 and have added my desired VLANs to the LAN connection (in my example igc0). I would like to set up the 10GB ports to feed my switches on ix0 (Needs all VLANs) and ix1 (only needs a single VLAN)...

    New Netgate 6100 Install

OK so if I set the Main LAN to 192.168.10.0/24 as an example, that would free up the 192.168.1.0 network for IoT rather than choosing another VLAN?

    New Netgate 6100 Install

So quick question. I have several older IoT devices that assume the network will be on 192.168.1.x Any downside to setting the main LAN to something else and using 192.168.1.0/24 as a VLAN for IoT devices? I feel like there is an obvious 'Gotcha' I am missing ..... I realize that managed...

Access point with multiple SSIDs mapped to multiple VLANs

@ddaenen1 - when you set this up, did you need to assign static IPs to the WAP571s? And if so, is that set within pfSense somewhere?

    News RV340/345 Security Vulnerability

This is how (RESTCONF unchecked) I have been running since this advisory came out. I have not seen any issues whatsoever. That said, I will be replacing the router shortly I think.

    News RV340/345 Security Vulnerability

Cisco RV340, RV340W, RV345, and RV345P Dual WAN Gigabit VPN Routers Arbitrary File Upload Vulnerability I am having a bit of difficulty in deciding how worried I should be, but I am concerned with the "there are no work-arounds" and "we are not going to fix it statements". One question I have...

    Replacement for RV-340

For anyone tracking this thread - I thought I would point out a relevant discussion on the Cisco forums where CoreyP319 who identifies as a Cisco employee says: Hello all, There is currently no CBR in development at this time, there are decisions being made by management regarding this line...

    Replacement for RV-340

Hi @Christos - absolutely correct. My point is they seem to be "slightly" different versions of pfsense and I see many online comments about whether or not they will diverge in development going forward. I fond it interesting that you cannot load pfsense+ directly (on a non Netgate device) -...

    Replacement for RV-340

Well, the mini-PC option is interesting. A few options considering the desire for 2.5GB Ports. I am looking at the Protectli Vault FW4C vs Netgate 4100/6100. Certainly the Vault is cheaper - by about $250'ish over the 4100. Weighing pros/cons about the Protectli unit (not really interested...

    Replacement for RV-340

@Tech9 - great input - thx. In that same vein then, if I were to go 4100, would you see benefit from the "Max" config (128 GB M.2 NVMe) or would the Base config (16 GB eMMC) be sufficient? Unless I am missing something, that is the only difference.

    Firewalla Gold

@avtella - are you able to expand on this at all? I seem to be back and forth quite a bit between the ease of installation vs long term reliability between Firewalla and a Netgate pfsense box (4100/6100).

    Replacement for RV-340

Interesting read. I think though that between the learning curve and the single 2.5GB port and the warnings about security deficiencies I have read, it might not be what I am looking for.

    Replacement for RV-340

Quite concerned about this as well - could be the showstopper for Firewalla.
  17. J

    Replacement for RV-340

Yes - have been comparing the two closely. Looks like the big differences are the 2-core vs quad-core processor, extra 4GB RAM and the 10GB SFP Ports. Either way I would be using one of the 2.5GB LAN ports as WAN. I get future-proofing for 10GB SFP but my real concern is more the processor...

    Replacement for RV-340

So as a minor update, our ISP (Rogers in Canada) just rolled out 1.5Gbps download internet over coax into our neighborhood and are laying the fiber optic this summer to match Bell's speeds. After going back and forth with them and the other main provider here I bagged a pretty decent discount...

Echo Show Device - Ding Dong someone is at your front door with The Ring Doorbell

Old Thread but thought I would add our experience. When we first set up our Ring Doorbell (we have several other Ring cameras as well) we set the alert boundaries to avoid getting hits off of the street passersby. Somewhere along the line these boundaries went away and we needed to reset them...
