[Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 with DNS over TLS

Roger that skeal... just read that after googling it and you verified for me. Fortunately at least dig works for me... gotta fire up my ancient laptop that I rarely use to try the kdig thing. From what I understand based on this discussion...

[Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 with DNS over TLS

Thanks for the fast, and insightful reply. So I guess those sites are kinda pointless then. FWIW, when I turn on dnssec in my router, dig +dnssec +multi asuswrt.lostrealm.ca @127.0.0.1 ...returns the 'ad' flag. If I turn off dnssec, no 'ad' flag. So I'm guessing it has to be on in the gui for...

[Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.11 with DNS over TLS

Confirmed, dirty flash is working smoothly for me. I'm running DoT with cloudflare on my ac86u no problems. I did have to disable DNSSEC in the webui, otherwise it breaks cloudflares DoT test page. Note that even with DNSSEC disabled, all DNSSEC test pages (including cloudflare) all test out OK...

Diversion & YazFi play well together?

Well, dnsmasq will already forward dns requests from your "main subnet" to Diversion by default, if you configure your router correctly per 'standard install'. Handling the vpn's usually just requires adding some routing rules, depending on your needs.

    Stubby-Installer-Asuswrt-Merlin

Sorry if this is out of right field... I scanned over the merlin beta release notes and noticed 2 things that may shake up the script scene: DOT and NTPD! I am assuming that if all goes well, when 384.11 rolls out this stubby installer script won't be needed anymore, correct? ...or maybe the...

Slower internet since firmware update 384.10_2

Hehe, I was going to vote for ctf+fqc being off... Nice when you have a problem that truly does fix itself when you walk away from it. :D

RT-AC86U: run OpenVPN client when OpenVPN server is ON? (no active connections to it)

My router has an ovpn server and an ovpn client running, and both work as expected. I suspect the info Martineau posted above is relevant here. Have a peek at the logs on the ovpn client you are trying to connect to your router's server. You may find ddns errors. If so, verify your router client...

YazFi YazFi - enhanced AsusWRT-Merlin Guest WiFi inc. SSID <-> VPN Client

Also, sort of the reverse of what bennor said... I use Diversion ad blocking on my router for all my lan clients. Normally guests would also have ad blocking since dhcp pushes the router ip for DNS to clients. Some of my guests swear their pages don't work right through diversion (I verified...

YazFi YazFi - enhanced AsusWRT-Merlin Guest WiFi inc. SSID <-> VPN Client

'Intranet access off' may include full internet access. Otoh, restricting to just ntp, for example, means devices can get time updates from the internet, but won't be allowed to 'phone home' via TCP or other protocol. This can be much safer than just allowing a device that only needs ntp to have...

YazFi YazFi - enhanced AsusWRT-Merlin Guest WiFi inc. SSID <-> VPN Client

Yeah thanks again Jack Yaz! I updated to the latest and all is well. I'm using yazfi to subnet off my guests, and also provide an ssid that goes through a vpn client. It's nice knowing there's more separation between "bad guests" and my lan, and having the policy based vpn route makes it easy...

Yeah I think that the more important thing we can do to ensure our hero's are taken care of is educating new folks. Ppl need to understand these just how important these 'volunteers' are to perpetuating such router greatness. I am grateful that we have been benefitting from their work for years...

I have donated to merlin and lonelycoder... still owe Adam, x3ntrek, kvic, jackyaz, and others... but I know kvic won't accept $. I certainly don't mind donating. I also feel that asus may be getting some value out bbn of their work... I bet a big chunk of asus routers running merlin may not...

Was that like before FORTRAN? :D My brother (just 3yrs my elder) learned FORTRAN in school (what you'd expect from an 80's for profit tech school). Glad I waited until college before I got I to coding... after an 'intro to C' course.

    Stubby-Installer-Asuswrt-Merlin

I hear you skeal... got a bs-ae at UM... learned a lot of useful math tricks, how to think critically, and got interested in coding. Good stuff, but the real bits and bolts of knowledge that I use daily came from 'alternative sources'... snbforums, rcgroups, thingiverse... and maybe a few other...

    Stubby-Installer-Asuswrt-Merlin

Sigh, not sure what the heck it was, but upon my last attempt with AMTM it appears stubby has installed properly and is now working as intended. The stubby installer showed different successful results when starting stubby, and now i'm able to browse the web with my wan dns set to the router...

    Stubby-Installer-Asuswrt-Merlin

So I tried installing stubby on my ac86u (latest _.10 marlinfw) using the AMTM menu, and the command line... it keeps failing! I'm already running Diversion, skynet, pixelservtls, and I uninstalled dnscrypt then rebooted before attempting to install stubby. Using the command line shows that...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I just e-mailed Google tech support about adding Diversion to their servers. I'm still waiting for a response... LOL! Cheers

    Rt-ac86u wired connection issue.

15sec after boot up then everything works fine? I guess that could be disruptive for some scenarios. It could be many things, but since it's ethernet at least that eliminates half of the possibilities. I'm no expert in this department, but I'd start with the obvious... look in to the router's...

    TLS1.3 support?

Yeah I am not sure how much Asus keeps up with these threads, but I'll put in my vote for upgrading openssl. Hopefully Asus doesn't get to far behind on this matter.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

SSH in and... diversion f 1 [Enter] ...open the app and make note of related urls in red. Add those to Diversion's whitelist, process whitelist, enjoy. A tip... not necessarily all of the red lines that pop up need to be whitelisted. Try to minimize white listing to only the urls needed for...
