Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

Let's show @RMerlin some love for patching multiple models before Asus!

Looking for feedback: Anyone considering AiCloud important to them?

I would have to think the venn diagram of people sophisticated enough to use 3rd-party firmware, and those who use a training-wheels type "cloud" service, has to be exceedingly small.

Crystal ball - aka which router is likely gonna make it for a while

    Forgot the air gapping risers.

    What became of your TM-AC1900?

AI Mesh node in an unattached garage forever - no issues, but band movements have relegated it to spare use. It makes one nice WIFI NIC for a device without WiFi, when needed.

    Asus Rog Gt-Ax6000

"Code" and "GPL" are not the same - @Tech9 is correct here.

News RT-AC68U End of Life Announced by Asus

Me too. Owned one. It was a piece of junk that dropped WiFi repeatedly. I lost it to a lightning strike, and replaced it with an AX86S, which is better in every way.

    Comcast email - RT-AX86U Pro - ASUS 3.0.0.6.102_34314 works, Merlin 3004_388.8_2 doesn't

Yep - saying same thing. As to this CVE - it appears to be related to Asus use of OpenVPN ( https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2024-0401 ). Straight from the Merlin release notes for the latest version:

    Comcast email - RT-AX86U Pro - ASUS 3.0.0.6.102_34314 works, Merlin 3004_388.8_2 doesn't

Not unreasonable. I get it. Just to set your mind at ease - unless @RMerlin has an explicit fix for a CVE (which isn't that common), his changelogs will only list a (usually somewhat aged) version upgrade to an underlying component, with no reference to any CVE. History and my gut this...

    Comcast email - RT-AX86U Pro - ASUS 3.0.0.6.102_34314 works, Merlin 3004_388.8_2 doesn't

I wouldn't worry yet - overwhelming majority of similar vulnerability fixes, in the past, have been circumvented by Merlin being more up to date on non-firmware components. Just because Asus releases firmware, doesn't mean that the code they're fixing actually sits in the GPL

    GT-AX6000 or RT-AX88U PRO

One weird vote for the 6000... I got mine open box from Amazon - i don't think it was ever unwrapped. What I think happened: User 1 opened box, shrieked, wrapped up, and sent back. If you can take similar advantage of open box "shriek" pricing like me, it's a steal.

    GT-AX6000 Discontinued?

Doesn't look like you saw the date he posted. He was one day off. Anyway, I tried to warn him!
  12. H

    GT-AX6000 Discontinued?

There has clearly been an issue at Asus, especially with the 3.0.0.6 splits going on. AX-86PRO just got a build - i'm personally expecting the floodgates to open soon.

    [ 3004.388.7 alpha 2 Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Note the changelog: - CHANGED: Updated free memory report on networkmap to also consider reclaimable memory as being free (kjbracey) You're only seeing "improved memory management" likely because of this, with likely little actual change.

Asus RT-AX86U vs RT-AX68U (with Merlin cake SQM)

It was always a piece of junk, despite initial hope (I owned one), and some fervent supporters here. EOL is good riddance, in this case.
  15. H

    RT-AX68U Availability

Ha. Called it without trying. The junk AX-68U is now actually EOL.

    [ 3004.388.6 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Something weird in the alpha. I don't run anything special at all (AX6000 main, AX86S node, no VPN, no QoS, really vanilla) For some reason, my live bandscan for OTA TV can't make it out to their provider. I'm going to see if i can figure it out, but if a rollback works, I'll report too...

Ads on top of forum content...

All this talk about ad annoyance, and not a single mention of the lack of protected space up top, for ads? If i had a nickel for every mis-hit on a quick link click, due to the whole forum moving down... Every other forum I'm on everywhere accounts for this space, why not this one?

Release ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_21514

This was my experience, too. Even simple, needed, items (like changing wifi channels) struggle. I'm on the Merlin beta right now, given it's 1) back on 3.0.0.4x and 2) an even newer GPL than the stock release. Rock solid, and the loss of the ROG GUI doesn't hurt, either.
  19. H

    RT-AX68U Availability

Never mind that @L&LD is calling the AX-86U "essentially EOL" while spouting on about a router that, you know, probably is a heck of a lot closer to EOL (and in the thread saying availability is dropping - gee, wonder why?).
  20. H

    RT-AX68U Availability

Has more weight than you saying "The AX68U has quite a few bad reviews here on the forums" is "just not true" Look it up. I did, you just continue to spout nonsense.
