    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

...as to this thread, a lightning strike took out both my AX86U AND 68U. Given the replacement cost is so close, and this bug seems to persist, I'm probably going to go for an 86S, as a node, and wait for an 86 Pro, for the router. Asus can't get their act together, recently.

    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

Honestly, you're both right. AIMesh, in particular, is a bugfest, when it comes to node joining (and not just on Merlin). AC68U's sometimes fail to add at all, and can sometimes be fixed by adding via ethernet after a multi-reboot dance. This one above for AC86U's and others. One could try to...

RT-AX86U PRO page now up ...

QoS, as it stands from ASUS, on the AX86 (and elsewhere) is much MUCH more hampered by broken code, than hardware. At this point, i would lean towards not suggesting it for anyone, unless you have a true, verifiable use case. Evidence...

Solved Cannot add node into AiMesh

Damned sorcery. Still unfixed with latest firmware. Thanks!

    AX86U reports 386.7_2 needs upgrade to 386.7_2

@jorhett I would double-check the bolded, possibly even to the point of a safe eject, and then removing, as i have seen non-ejected USB drives cause weird issues myself. I just want to make sure this isn't being lost in the noise.

    Bufferbloat A+ Asus GT-AXE-16000 + AX-11000

Any chance at trying disabling flow cache? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/flexqos-1-3-1-flexible-qos-enhancement-script-for-adaptive-qos.75620/page-10#post-765976

    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

I get it. I spoke up because 1) I was similarly impacted 2) was on the olllllld stock FW for a while, as a result, and 3) 387.2 works now.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.8 Beta is out for specific models

Normally, you're either testing the alpha, or the beta, so no reason to progress through both. Normally, i would also try reverting to defaults on beta prior to rolling back to alpha or prior stock. All that said, if there is a commit between alpha and beta impacting you, by all means, roll...

    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

    386.7_2 has held stable on my previously-impacted AX-68U, @MotR . I would give it a shot.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.8 Beta is out for specific models

Sorry, but debug your process. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade to alpha from stable, and then beta. If anything, it's likely introducing whatever problems you're having.

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

THANK YOU - disabling fc finally fixed my download being throttled. Given this is so long-standing, i'm 1/2 wondering about trying this against fq_codel vs sqm, as i would have expected someone to complain to ASUS if it similarly broke in stock? (Not that releases have been higher quality for...

    TM-AC1900 as AImesh node?

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/snbforums-policy-on-asus-tm-ac1900-conversion-discussion.46018/ This is more relevant, since you're not flashing merlin, but same basic idea. The site owner has made TM-AC1900 discussion verboten, for better or worse.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

They tried to release a new firmware in April, and it bricked a few routers. The AX68 isn't much better - the last good build dates from last year, due to WiFi dropouts (although maybe light at the end of the tunnel on the GPL on this beta version there, hopefully) They're clearly having...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

Sorry, I reformatted prior to thinking about it, but from the syslog: May 5 01:05:13 kernel: random: init urandom read with 12 bits of entropy available May 5 01:05:13 kernel: proc_dostring_crashlogsave: crash log filename is /jffs/crashlog.log May 5 01:05:13 kernel: crashFileSet: Failed...

    [ 386.7 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Thanks - I figured as such. I didn't want the speculation/misunderstanding to take over the convo.

    [ 386.7 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Come on - bricking is a little more than "risky". Has anyone actually successfully flashed an AX86U? The conjecture (and note on the original post) is kind of misleading - the user simply copied the wrong filename into their post, not badly onto their router, if I'm reading right.

    [ 386.7 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

The clients dropping on 5GHz sounds suspiciously like the problem we're having with the AX68U, which ASUS seems to have confirmed.

    [ 386.7 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Very interested in this one, as the ASUS stock releases have been fairly awful for my 2 main routers recently. AX86U with the bricking issue. AX68U with bad wifi ( https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-ax68u-5ghz-band-dropping-disappearing.76091/page-4#post-748672 )

    ASUS AX68U 5GHz Band Dropping / Disappearing

Stop driving yourself nuts, and roll back the firmware, per below. I can confirm this works (AX68 node on an AX86 main)

Firmware 386.4 Issues - Unable to add AiMesh Node over ethernet

Completely understand. In your situation, i would consider the newer stock firmware, unless merlin gives you something mission-critical.
