    Ruckus R510 experience

I stumbled onto Ruckus by accident, a most fortuitous accident as it's been running quite well for us. So, self-servingly, I've been kind of waiting for the exciting conclusion? I'm intrigued with that comment. In any case I've heard the Ruckus support line is quite good?

"Cannot Login Unless Logout Another User First"

I agree. Multi-user is problematic when multiple users start changing things at the same time. "KISS" (keep it simple ...) Home routers are already complicated enough acting as a router & wireless access point combo, Ethernet switch, DNS (name) server, DHCP server, NAT gateway, print...

    Router / network upgrade advice

For many of us all roads lead to ... the Internet. If that's you then 10 x 1 is your pinch point. 10 x 1 is an austere highway. Anything you can do to facilitate the polite sharing of a limited resource will pay dividends. For me I found QoS with a simple "bandwidth limiter" (about 9 x 0.9...

Need assistance upgrading my WiFi network

This confuses me. Usually a Gigabit service is a gig up and a gig down. I don't think a WiFi speed of 250 is bad but shouldn't it be more like 250 down and up? What and how are you measuring? Not sure. Is it an old "N" or a newer "AC"? What speeds are you seeing when you connect through...

Paralyzed by analysis - need some help!

Nice post Val, I agree. Christmas specials; should be easy to keep within your price range. Myself, I lean towards Asus because I really like their "real time traffic monitor" but that's me. Too bad about "placement" issues. I had a placement issue at our house. I "fixed" it by getting an...

Can you link 1 switch to another switch?

Because then one would have to "home run" all the cameras to one place. Not bad but not always easy/cheap. With multiple switches one might be able to uh optimize wiring runs.

1000 Mbps speed on each port on a router?

Absolutely! I don't disagree. Short of that then "home run" the switches. Short of that then do whatcha gotta do. Short of running "4K" (25 Mbps x 24 cameras = 600 Mbps) I doubt 24 cameras are gonna overwhelm gigabit : -)

1000 Mbps speed on each port on a router?

I do believe you were touching on this just the other day? Does the aggregate bandwidth from the 24 cameras even come close to 1,000 Mbps? And, even if it doesn't, it still might be worthwhile to attach each switch to its own router port. That way if a switch goes out you only lose 6 cameras...

    Need help finding a router!

AX - I'm cheap. Why pay bleeding edge prices for tomorrow's technology when you can get AC so much cheaper? I like Asus. I love their "Real Time Traffic Monitor". I only have a few sites but they were all having problems before Asus. With the real time traffic monitor (and "Ping Plotter") I...

Can you link 1 switch to another switch?

I'm an amateur so I go by "rules" rather than "why". Said differently, I've been taught "what to think" rather than "how to think". So I've been taught to avoid cascading switches. That said I have and it works. Let's play for a moment; Availability: Let's pretend any one device will go...

Guest network on different ip section?

and ... there's the answer. Thank you.

Guest network on different ip section?

Another tack might be, "Why?" IF all you want to do is isolate "guests" from your privates simply set up your "guest" SSID and disable intranet access.

How to setup ASUS RT-AC86u router

So ... setup was a "non-event"? Did I win my bet (took less than 10 minutes)? What did you do with the APs? Same SSIDs as Asus or different?

    Upgrade options from RT-AC66U

Kind of curious where you wound up. Did you upgrade, to what, and how did it work out for you?

How to setup ASUS RT-AC86u router

It's been a couple of weeks. How did the setup go? Did I win my beer?

Should I upgrade to WiFi 6 Router?

Actually as a kind of trailing edge type of guy I do appreciate that. It's pioneers like you who get the kinks worked out for the rest of us : -)

How to setup ASUS RT-AC86u router

Paralysis by analysis : -) Wireless access points offer hints as to their uh suitability. Those hints are codified into standards. Different generations of equipment may or may not support all those standards and different vendors may implement those standards slightly different. Ultimately...

    Upgrade options from RT-AC66U

Bits n Bytes : -) Data transfers often measure "payload" thus they're in Bytes. Network speed tests don't know the difference between data and "overhead" (packet headers, descriptors, source & destination addresses, trailers ... ) so they simply measure bits. While there are 8 bits to a byte...

How to setup ASUS RT-AC86u router

So it seems like the consensus is keep it simple and use stock to start with? Having your SSID strategy mapped out before the actual install should make install a breeze (and let me collect a beer from @OzarkEdge : -) On one extreme one SSID/password for everything (router, Devolos and all...

How to setup ASUS RT-AC86u router

You're on. What kind of drinks we talking about? Even if I lose I'd be honored to buy you a beer my new friend. (That said don't be letting me down @Windsor-tg ; -)
