Looking for info on Coaxial cabling.

Are you talking about these simple coax splitters 1 in and 2 out? Splitters and joints are deadly for coax signal. So are open ends on a splitter. Ideally, if a splitter is needed, it should always contain an amplifier to ensure the signal strength is maintained.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

As mentioned in the other thread, i moved back to CE 2.7.2 with the deployment of the new routerbox. Honestly, there is really no difference. OK, you don't get the bootpool option and you don't have the ZFS widget but for the rest, it is all the same. Worked perfectly fine with the config from...

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

In the mean time more than 3 weeks down the line and not a glitch with the X10SDV. Temp stays around 52C, fan speeds at 4000RPM and i noticed Speedstep is keeping the CPU around 405MHz with 5% load. Surely this must have a positive impact on power consumption. Even on 1Gbps full load through...

    10GB wired router options

I only had switches from Netgear and they have all been fine. Still run 2 smaller GS105PE's in my network for local distribution as they are POE powered, support VLAN's and don't require separate PSU's.

    10GB wired router options

don't hate you but a bit jealous :) I had 2 Netgear switches and they both were excellent. I will be looking at buying one once it makes sense from an ISP point of view. My pfSense box is ready for it and i have a spare X550-T2 ready to install in my TrueNAS box but as long as i am only on 1Gb...

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

...and back to pfSense CE 2.7.2. I swapped out the old pfSense+ box with the newer X10SDV box with D-1521 CPU and pfSense CE installed.Jjust replugged WAN and LAN cables and that was about it. Fairly uneventful. Needed to reconfigure my VLAN but that was about it. Running smooth at about 53C...

    10GB wired router options

Whatever device you are going to use, if you want to 10Gb this is going to use up some power and so will any 10GB switch that you may squeeze in between.

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

i monitored temps with the CPU fan on now for over a week where it was always floating around 59-62C. Today the shroud came in today. I removed the CPU fan and installed the air shroud which actually fits like a glove, once you figured out how to position it since as many things from Supermicro...

Router low performance wifi on AP Mode

And pfSense also "just works" once it is set up correctly. pfSense and OpnSense are much more built for purpose than any consumer appliance but if it is just for domestic use and there is no need for functionality that pfSense or OpnSense has to offer, i would agree with you.

How To Find The Best Router For Gigabit Internet

I only noticed this now. The forums are not affected, right?

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

The quest continues. I have been busy managing my business so not much time for this in the past months. I received the fan and managed to find a way to attach it to the passive heatsink but honestly, it didn't make any difference. The new box is now running for several days in a test...

Best CAT cable to block RFI and EMI?

i thought S/FTP network cable was the best to avoid interference.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

Hah, funny. They are cutting open the street here for fiber too as we speak.

Questions on my first DIY NAS (+server) build

I am a long-time TrueNAS Core user. Still on Core despite the push from IX Systems to move everyone to Scale. I stick around because i just like FreeBSD. If you would consider TrueNAS, which i highly recommend, i would go for TrueNAS Scale as i don't see any other development on Core after the...

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

Seems a bit like an overreaction to a simple post, don't you think?

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

Sorry, but where in my post do i write that there issues with Aquantia cards? I am just recommending Intel NIC's for a hassle free operation. I do not know anything about the Marvell chipset. I only know that of all NIC's i have had, the ones that never gave me any issue were Intel chipset.

Buying a 10GB Pcie Ethernet Card

Honestly, if it is within your budget, buy an Intel, X550 or X710. No worries, no trouble and just works with basically everything else. Plug it in and never look back. Don't stick with brands, look at chipset. I have 2 X550-T2 in my network and they work with even with the most picky OS'es...

Do i need an IoT VLAN

Well, AFAIK IoT devices need the internet to connect to their respective servers to be able to be controlled by an app. The point is to ensure they cannot access anything else on your LAN. Therefore, putting on a separate VLAN to isolate them is what you would want to achieve.

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

I still have one matter of concern left with the new box. The CPU temp. Every article i read talks about the CPU core temp being to high (now it runs at 63C on idle) on the X10SDV with the passive heatsink. There is an active version from Supermicro (SNK-C0057A4L) but impossible to find here in...
