Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

So I would need to disable the "speed check" in dnsmasq? It doesn't make sense anyway, since the DNS servers I add are usually the fastest ones I can get. Edit: or I need to get dnsmasq to correctly rotate through the list of dns servers.

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

Well I tried the same with 2x NextDNS servers...even with 4x NextDNS servers. All show the exact same queries instead of splitting them on the different servers.

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

That is exactly the outcome I want :S

    /tmp/resolv.conf: /tmp/resolv.dnsmasq:

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

The logs show that it does not work as intented. Each request goes to both DNS servers instead of just one?!

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

That doesn't make sense. I see the same request on both dns servers at the same second. What has this to do with cache? Over a period of 30 days I have nearly the same DNS request count on both DNS Server. E.g. 265.123 and 265.118

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

I am using Dns over TLS with adguard and nextdns :)

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

According to this post by @RMerlin is is supported and enabled by default. This was 2019 though: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/preview-asuswrt-merlin-384-11-with-dns-over-tls.56095/page-6#post-481515

Multiple DNS servers - Requests don't split between them

I am running several different DNS servers and my goal was to have all requests being split on those different DNS servers. For this example I used: 1x NextDNS + 1x AdguardDNS Both have a simple webinterface that logs the requests. When I now check the requests from the last 10 minutes, both...

330/110 Fiber - Best and easiest QoS settings to manage bufferbloat?

I finally got my internet upgraded. For now it even is 550/110 mbit/s. Cake seems to only manage 350mbit/s with 1 CPU maxing out. Adaptive QoS seems to manage my full speed (but I set it to max. 480mbit/s) while the load gets averaged on all CPU's at 30%. Bufferbloat test seems to be...

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

How to make that setting stick on reboots/updates? Also, is there any benefit of using DNS rebind on the router instead of NextDNS?

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

Oh well, only 10% for now. Anyway, I guess my plan is a good one then? DNSSEC only enabled on NextDNS Rebind protection only enabled on Router

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

I can't find any errors in my log as well. Rebind Protection: NextDNS: Disabled Router: Enabled DNSSEC: NextDNS: Enabled Router: Disabled Does that configuration make sense? My thoughts were: I want rebind protection to be enforced/secured locally. DNSSEC externally to save my own hardware...

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

Hm I have DNS Rebinding protection disabled in NextDNS. Can I then do it on my router or would it be better to let NextDNS handle this?

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

I have those enabled as well and no problems so far.

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

Thanks but I guess I will go with NextDNS :) Adguard Home doesn't have any big advantages over NextDNS? Except maybe, that requests are processed locally and should there for be faster than sending them to NextDNS?

Multiple DNS Servers - How does the router decide which one to use?

Oki, thanks! I will try figuring it out by adding two different nextdns accounts with empty protocolls and see how they both fill up.

Thanks! Yes I was referring to DNS over TLS/HTTPS. So it roates. And do you happen to know approx. how often?
