    always check duplex settings on all devices too. Erratic speeds are often caused by duplex mismatch. Changing to a shorter cable may have just been luck until you reboot...or had a bad cable

    it seems so simple. If dhcp fails to renew, why does it not retry? isn't this very basic stuff? yet the more I google the issue, the more Asus routers seem to suffer from it. I've never seen this error on any other router I've owned. Weird.

    I kept the 87u despite the obvious rep it gets here. Knock on wood but with merlins firmware i have no droputs on 5gig, 2.4 range is awesome, no heat issues, solid wan and lan speeds.     So I put Merlin's on tonight. Certainly a step in the right direction. His added features are nice. Lets see how stable it is now. Got 1 week before I decide to keep this thing or return it.

    thanks merlin. Looks like I can't get the Asus 3200 here now....my luck someone bought it. Only the X6 and 890 left. Maybe I'll order it my favorite BC store if its on sale tonight.

    Well, router ranker here places the Dlink as #1 3200 router. I know from the few I have had over the years, I have had no issues with reboots or drops hardware failing etc. It seems Asus has issues with drops on almost every review and model I can find. I even have several family members...
