    Unhappy with the RT-AC87U

With the way asus is handling this 87u I doubt I'd waste my money an any of their routers again. My first and last. I've defended the router to a point but my 5gig is definitely unreliable. It is the only router I had to buy a laptop cooler for because of their horrible lack of venting...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

Apple devices have been a unreliable headache for a lot of wireless admins. I'm a sys admin at a university. The recent ios9 release was another fine example of how apple released yet another buggy update that broke wireless across many enterprise networks. Of course they will never admit it...

1st time buying a NAS, in need of advices

Synology. Have installed them for countless clients. Their os is solid and actually quite incredible for a Web based one and reliable. Sent from my SM-G925W8 using Tapatalk

Speed Problem, Wired or Wireless - RT-AC68P

always check duplex settings on all devices too. Erratic speeds are often caused by duplex mismatch. Changing to a shorter cable may have just been luck until you reboot...or had a bad cable

Is this a bug on Asus firmware? WAN disconnections

it seems so simple. If dhcp fails to renew, why does it not retry? isn't this very basic stuff? yet the more I google the issue, the more Asus routers seem to suffer from it. I've never seen this error on any other router I've owned. Weird.

Is this a bug on Asus firmware? WAN disconnections

I'm have the same issue with a 87u. Every few days I get disconnected,ISP DHCP error. I need to reboot. Merlins latest firmware. Tried normal and aggressive modes. I thought normal fixed it but sure enough it did it again tonight. Sep 13 19:44:15 WAN Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function...

Asus RT-AC87 with 378.55_0 vs. Asus RT-AC66 with Fork 374.43_2-13E1j9527

3 weeks in, merlins firmware, no drops on 5gig at all and I'm working remotely via rdp on my Surface 3 pro nightly so I would notice. 2.4 range rock solid. No reboots needed. 30 devices, cameras, Nest protects, idevices, wired pcs, consoles. I've removed all my AP's that other routers could...

Is there at least one good router out there?

I kept the 87u despite the obvious rep it gets here. Knock on wood but with merlins firmware i have no droputs on 5gig, 2.4 range is awesome, no heat issues, solid wan and lan speeds. I too suspect that the 2600 is the next logical step. If Asus drops the ball and offers little support on the...

Is there at least one good router out there?

1 week in. No real major issues on the 87u. No drops on the 5gig channel. 2.4 range is superb and it is handling my cameras fine. But I did have the dhcp issue once with my isp where the router did not renew ip address and I had to reboot it in order for Internet to work again. Cpu temp...

Is there at least one good router out there?

So I put Merlin's on tonight. Certainly a step in the right direction. His added features are nice. Lets see how stable it is now. Got 1 week before I decide to keep this thing or return it.

Is there at least one good router out there?

I think I'll try Merlins next. I'm not sure what I'm giving up with his? Just wanted to try stock first and see how stable it is. 2.4ghz is fine. Range is stable and excellent. 5ghz I see no massive drops yet with BF off. Want to leave router on a few days though. I'm seeing cpu temps...

Is there at least one good router out there?

I canceled the AC3200 ASus order from NCIX. Went and got the 87U locally. The 3200 is just crazy money for what it is and this being my first Asus I wasn't taking the leap ordering online. Much too early to decide if I am keeping it. But quick observations 1. it does run warm. Mind you we are...

Is there at least one good router out there?

ordered the Asus 3200. Feel like I wasted probably $150 more then I needed, but my router is literally dying as I type. Had to stop messing around and just make a decision. Thanks for the help guys. I like the idea of being able to manually assign things with the 3200, and over the next year...

Is there at least one good router out there?

thanks merlin. Looks like I can't get the Asus 3200 here now....my luck someone bought it. Only the X6 and 890 left. Maybe I'll order it my favorite BC store if its on sale tonight.

Is there at least one good router out there?

Great comments! thanks folks. Does the Asus AC3200 have any heat issues like the 87u? don't they use similar bodies?

Which good router for my application? AC68U or R7000?

Well, router ranker here places the Dlink as #1 3200 router. I know from the few I have had over the years, I have had no issues with reboots or drops hardware failing etc. It seems Asus has issues with drops on almost every review and model I can find. I even have several family members...
