    The Uptime Contest

My first job was in an IT services company that had been around for decades, they were the local WANG dealer. They eventually went bust and were bought out, and when we were clearing out the office we found a NetWare box behind the printers that everyone had forgotten about - everyone thought...

Clarity on tri-band routers with dual band nodes (AiMesh)

Currently I have 2x RT-AX56U routers, running AiMesh. I also have an AX92U which I don't use because with AiMesh 1.0 the 3rd band (the AX one) was reserved for the WiFi backhaul, even though I use ethernet backhaul exclusively. I tried the Asus betas of AiMesh 2.0, but the WebGUI was still...

Remove Router and Node From AiMesh 2.0

Well double duh to you, if you're going to be like that. Just go in to the AiMesh page on the main router and press the "Remove" button for the node. It's nearly like Asus thought about it, and named the button accordingly. Not exactly rocket science, is it?

Looking for suggestions for 2.5 Gbps PCIe Ethernet adapter that runs on Ubuntu

Just be aware if you intend using the lower-priced X550 cards that have SFP+ on them, most SFP+ to ethernet modules only work at 10GBe - they won't negotiate lower. As for the i225V, I've not had any trouble with mine, no idea what revision it is though. It's on an Asus Strix B550-XE Gaming.

    AiMesh Nodes Not Showing

I've never had to reset the main router. I do a full reset of the node, keep it about 1m/3ft from the main router and then set it up using the iOS app (I have an old iPhone I keep around to do certain things that just work better on iOS). One it's connected, I set the backhaul to ethernet...

Remove Router and Node From AiMesh 2.0

If that's happening, then you don't need the second node.

Best practice to uploading latest Merlin 386.1

Upload it, wait for reboot, get on with life.

    AiMesh Nodes Not Showing

No problems here, I even had my nodes running the Asus 9.0.0beta firmware with the main router running 386.1. As for joining the nodes, I've found the only reliable way is to use the Asus Router app. Works best on iOS (amazingly), but Android works 99% of the time. The web interface works...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 is now available

Just calling in to report no problems doing a dirty flash of Merlin 386.1 ontop of Asus 9.0.0 beta on my 2xAX56U AiMesh setup. Will be doing the 3xAX56U AiMesh at MIL's tomorrow. Seems to have cured the random reboots of the Asus beta firmware.

    Home network upgrade recommentations

Pair of modern Asus routers in AiMesh. I've had great success with the RT-AX56U running the latest beta firmwares (AiMesh 2.0), both at my house (2x56U) and at mother-in-law's house which uses the same brick (they're call Poraton here, and they seem to suck up wifi like nothing else) - there...

    Change IP Adress In Firmware

Why are you factory resetting so much that you want to go to the bother of hacking firmware to change the default IP?!? Your request makes zero sense.

    RT-AX92U issue

Wow, what happened that made you so bitter, and also font of all knowledge despite having a sample size of one? iPhones with Intel modems/WiFi are known to be inferior to the ones with Qualcomm modems. This is why the iPhone 12 will be going exclusively QC.

    Affordable 4 or 5-port 2.5 gbe switches?

MS510TX from Netgear is a great switch, and really quite quiet. It does have a fan, but it runs as a barely audible hiss.

Adding Archer A6 to existing AiMesh?

I run an old UniFi access point to fill a hole, and it works fine - it's just set up with the same SSIDs as the AiMesh.

In which language should I send feedback?

I recommend Bajoran. The Ferengi coders will understand that.

    RT-AX92U issue

iPhones have terrible wifi, the Xr and XS line use Intel Wifi chips, and they don't work for crap. My XS Max has an Intel wifi chip, and it's the only device that gives any trouble. It's poor on the home AiMesh, and it's worse on the UniFi system at work.

    RT-AX56U New Firmware 3.0.0.4.384.9424 [2020/07/14]

Just posting to say I'm now running this on 4 RT-AX56U routers. I have 2 in two different houses (mine, and mother-in-law's), both running AiMesh. No problems to report, everything is stable.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Amen to that - the 56U is a brilliant device for the price.

AX88U As Router, But AC86U or AX58U for Nodes?

I had a AX58U, signal was pretty poor. Swapped it for a AX56U and the signal is excellent on that router, similar to the AX92U. Signal on any of the AX routers is significantly better than my previous AC88U, which was much better than my previous stalwart N66U. Actually, I got two AX56U in...

Two networks seprate lans, one internet connection

Easiest way is a PC with 3 NICs, and a VDSL modem. Run pfsense on the PC, hook up your two LANs to two of the NICs, and the modem to the other. Very simple.
