    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.64SF

Yes, the bit where I said "I'm having issues with OpenVPN" would let you know that's what I was talking about. ;) I'll give the Smartphone profile a go.

    [R7800] 5GHz only ~150MBps on smartphone

Indeed, you're pushing the limit of the flash storage on a smartphone with faster wifi. Besides, what do you need all that speed for on your phone? If you're using a phone to test your ISP speed, then really you're doing it wrong. It's like putting Formula 1 tyres on a 1.2 Renault Clio and...

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.64SF

I'm having issues with OpenVPN also, similar symptoms to NathanG, but I'm using the latest Windows client. I get a bit of traffic a few minutes after connecting, then minutes of no traffic, then a few seconds again, etc, etc. Home connection (with the R7800) is a 80/20 VDSL connection, work is...

    [R7800] 5GHz only ~150MBps on smartphone

From my memory of the Oneplus 5, it doesn't have particularly fast wifi. Just because it has a 835 SOC doesn't mean it will be able to do fast wifi. For example, with my router my old OnePlus only ever did 433Mb link, yet my Galaxy S10e in the exact same place gives a 1083Mb link.

    Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.62

Anyone else having issues with .62 and OpenVPN? I run OpenVPN Server on the router, and connect in from work. Formerly I had no problems connecting first time, and kept a stable fast connection as long as I need it. With .62 the VPN connects but traffic is very intermittent with long periods...

RT-AC86U want to enable HTTPS only access

It's is not an iPhone. You do not need https to access your router.

End of year 2017 development update

It would be great to have AiMesh use ethernet backhaul, like the Apple Airports can do. Using 4 Airports at work for guest wifi and it works brilliantly (one AC Extreme and three N Express).

    Synology ds1817+ or Asustor as6208t?

Long term Synology user here, and I've had a few Asustor units in my time too. My recommendation would without doubt be a QNAP. The TVS-863 is a very nice unit, has a decent 4-core AMD SOC, relatively cheap compared to the Synology, and I much prefer QTS over Synology's OS.

Sponsored: Running Plex On A Router Is Better

So, you're expecting that sort of user to even know that they can change their router? 90% of the people I know who aren't "good with technology" still use the junk router their ISP supplied. I know people who move ISP just to get a better router "because BT has the best wifi signal according...

Best rmerlin compatible router to replace expired RT-AC87U

The 3100 isn't generally available in the UK, which is a shame. I'm gutted about the 87U - mine is a very, very early unit, I got it basically the first day Amazon UK had them for sale. I had no issues at all with it until yesterday when it just had a fit and died. I'm struggling here to...

Best rmerlin compatible router to replace expired RT-AC87U

Folks, I've had an RT-AC87U for a long time, great router. Fast, brilliant signal everywhere in the house, and great performance from the OpenVPN server. Sadly, it died yesterday, so I'm back to my pauper-spec spare router, a TPLink VR400 which gets me on the internet, but wifi signal is...

Is it possible to mix hard disks in DS215j ?

Synology NAS units mirror the DSM OS across ALL disks in the NAS, no matter what way you set up the RAID or not.

    Windows 10 dual gigabit?

It's not removed. You can set up teaming, it just doesn't work. So, it's broken, not removed. If it was removed, you wouldn't be able to set it up.

Oops my network is exposed to hackers

Your diagram doesn't make sense. How are the PCs connecting to the switch getting internet? Does your fibre have multiple IP addresses? The first thing after the fibre to ethernet conversion box should be a router. Everything else should be plugged in via that router.

    RT-AC87U - am I doing something wrong?

I picked up a TPLink VR600 for a friend (has an ADSL/VDSL modem built in), so gave it a spin here before taking it to his house. I used to run an Archer D7 which was great, but only does ADSL (I have VDSL). Oh dear Asus, the 87U isn't very good. Much, much better wifi coverage from the...

    Windows 10 dual gigabit?

Teaming in Windows 10 is broken. Has been for ages, some update shortly after release broke it.

    RT-AC87U - am I doing something wrong?

Well, looking back it seems I've had my RT-AC87U for a little under 18 months. Clearly I'm doing something wrong, because I've had absolutely zero issues with it. It's been stable, fast, reliable. Only time it's power cycled is when I've moved it (twice) or the power has gone off (once). I...

    RT-AC66U pppoe

Mine is just plugged in to the WAN port, and has the IP of 192.168.2.1 - my LAN is 192.168.5.x I use a PPPoA to PPPoE bridge modem (Vigor 120), and the IP is manually set on the modem.

    On firmware 378.50 ...

The RT-N66U isn't a "low end router". It's just several years old. It's still one of, if not THE best 802.11n router available. You're talking like it's some $40 Belkin. The N66U is still better than probably 80% of the ISP supplied routers that people are using worldwide. Heck, most ISP...
