    2.4Ghz WiFi on a RT-AC86U - what are the optimal settings?

    Just curious…what’s the reason for using a DTIM value of 3 instead of changing it to 1? I know Asus AC routers default to 3 while AX routers default to 1…but any specific technical reason other than “that’s the default”?

    Asus omitting the beamforming toggle in their firmware is most certainly a mistake. That’s a pretty big oopsie on their part. And if you’ve ever dealt with their (utterly lousy) customer service (including their senior tech support team), you wouldn’t be surprised by the mistake :)

    Thanks. As I mentioned to drabisan, ax/ac beamforming is, indeed, enabled (confirmed using the ssh cmd) despite the toggle not being available. By the way, how are you finding the latest Merlin firmware for the 86U Pro?

    Probably another bug in the latest stock firmware. You’ll notice that there’s also no option to toggle “AC/AX Beamforming” on/off under the 5GHz network…that’s also a bug. I hope Asus gets their crap together and releases better firmware soon.

    Updated the router to the new stock firmware (x.386.44470) released a few days ago and the temp has dropped about 2 degrees (and holding for several days) at 75. Performance, range, and connectivity remain solid and stable.
