For the record, never had problems with 5Ghz here too. Sometimes forums collect more users with troubles than happy users;)

Also be sure that gmail does not move the Asus notification from the gmail inbox into a sub folder (it did this to me) as then it will not be forwarded to your chosen account.

Which firmware are you running on the AC88U?

I am afraid you will get all sorts of reports with any "latest" firmware suggesting to keep the previous one. This is happening at every new release. I am on the latest version 3941 and I have no issue whatsoever. The only way to know for you is to test it at your place. The usual precaution...

    Wireless Connection issues

Manual reboot the router to be able to install the new update and as it will most probably be the "380" line (against your current 378) its best to start fresh and fully reset the router after the update (+ manual input of custom settings afterwards).

    ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.3941

Here I see no DNS fails in log . Possibly some customised settings? My settings are very much default.

ASUS RT-AC88U 5GHz network connection drops after a few minutes, does not recover

Another test to perform is to selectively connect each client - one by one This is to verify that the issue is not linked to a specific device breaking the connection and hanging the router. Also, have you given different SSID names to the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz?

ASUS RT-AC88U 5GHz network connection drops after a few minutes, does not recover

Did you fully reset the router after updating to the latest firmware version (and no use of backups to restore settings) ? I am running an AC88U here and its rock solid on connections. Possible hardware problems? Does it operate in a warm environment?

DSL-AC68U - Latest Official Firmware and SIP Problems

Also consider that a full router reset to defaults and manual insert of settings (no file restore of settings) is recommended when moving between major firmware revisions (ie. from 378 to 380)

    ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.3941

Works well here but I had no problem even with the previous one. I have the impression I get more coverage/stability from the 5Ghz band. May be just an impression...
