Can I put one directional antenna on an RT-AC88U in AIMesh, so my boat gets a good signal?

#3 the best solution I think, never thought of the hose though, ingenious! FWIW, they make plastic threaded caps for the ends that you could drill a hole in to tighten the seal.

Can I put one directional antenna on an RT-AC88U in AIMesh, so my boat gets a good signal?

I have a few comments. The RT-AC68u, in my testing, will not do the distance you want. I get something around 100-125Mbps (read) at about 50ft and 2 walls. Theory and practice are not the same. I have seen others comment similarly on the device. You could try putting one of your 88's on...

AiMesh not working anymore on 2 latest Merlin firmwares

@Reef2009 Have you tried to connect the Router's LAN to Node WAN and add it back? Including your devices and firmware would be helpful

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

I hear you, most of this stuff is stupid expensive with slick marketing, little real product info and does not meet the expectation of the consumer once installed.

AiMesh with AC88u and Blue Cave

Over simplifying, Mesh was born in the office where clients (laptops) needed to move around the building. It also offered centralized management which is important with 50 nodes. It was translated and downsized to consumers and the model is different. Laptops have more robust wireless config...

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

Maybe I mis read this. Not clear how you currently have this set up?

AiMesh with AC88u and Blue Cave

This is not really load balancing. That would imply distributing all the clients across the nodes by bandwidth. You want to attach to the strogest signal, no matter how the load results. In any event, the best I can suggest is to go back to Roaming Assistant and enable it. Ratchet down the...

AiMesh not working anymore on 2 latest Merlin firmwares

It's suppose to, but does NOT always work with WIFI. So far, for those that reported this issue with WIFI, it has worked with Ethernet. HW was only relevant if ALL the steps failed, thank you.

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

Out of curiosity, was the Orbi in Router or AP mode? Maybe some one smarter than me can chime in, but could this have to do with some type of packet size mismatch between the two devices both acting as Routers? Try dropping the WAN MTU down to say 1400 and see if the problem goes away. You...

AiMesh not working anymore on 2 latest Merlin firmwares

Please review that you have done all of the following. You had 2 hard reset RT-AC68U on Merlin 386.3_2 firmware. You also then, independantly, did a software reset Administration => Restore/Save/Upload Settings and checked the Initialize all the settings... checkbox => Restore You than again...

AiMesh not working anymore on 2 latest Merlin firmwares

Great suggestion, I have added a new note to post 51 indicating to wait for the icon to change, thanks!

AiMesh with AC88u and Blue Cave

Have you tried to bind the clients to a specific node?

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

Yes, That is what I am suggesting. Of course you should validate the approach by testing. Why having the physical device in line improves over direct connection to the ONT is unclear. This keeps the HW, but moves the "routing and firewall" to your ASUS and opens up all the other ASUS tools...

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

As I said earlier, reset your router after flashing. Dirty upgrades, which is what you always do, will only perpetuate problems. Reconfigure from notes.

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

I don't expect you to agree, but paying up for GB service IMHO is drinking the marketing cool aid. I am an IT manager and run our business of 12 users on 150 Mbps Verizon service with most users connecting in by VPN. I rarely get complaints even from the Comcast users with a 8 Mbps upload...

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

Dump the FIOS router, especially if you are paying for it. You missing out on a lot of the features you paid for in the XT-8s. Not sure on the status of Guest LAN on the XT8. I know it works on the main ROUTER, but even though there are menu options in the AP, the Guest LAN does not work on...

Workaround or fix for slow upload speeds on Asus Zenwifi XT8 w/Verizon Fios?

2 things 1 - there are various notes on the forum about loosing wireless. I have\had the issue on my RT-AC1900P (AC-68u) mesh. The mesh drop can be seen by watching the mesh connection screen (yes, tedious at best), but it's only for a short time, like you describe. Again, you have NEVER...

    AiMesh router cannot find node

I have now reread this thread and realize that if the devices are with the firmware that you indicate that this not with in the failure scenarios covered in the post I referred you to. The AX86u on Merlin and a 66u b1 on stock firmware is not a failure scenario that I am aware of. So, I...
