    AIMesh node vs Access Point

I do understand that AIMesh offers a single point to manage an entire network and the abilty to have wireless nodes, which is an extremely attractive proposition. I also have seen some indicate that AP mode is more stable. When both devices are on Ethernet, if one configures a Router and AP...

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

It appears that ASUS is moving from the Laptop power standard (19V) to a more conventional 12V, though 2.5A is generally what one would see for an external 3.5" USB HDD; much easier to replace. TechInofoDepo notes here. CPU now appears to be the same as the RT-AC66u B1 (BCM4708C0 vs BCM4709x)...

AiMesh not working anymore on 2 latest Merlin firmwares

I have a pair of RT-AC1900P, revision unknown, and I too am experiencing this issue, also discussed here. I have now tested the following scenarios for this issue: Router Node Working 386_43129 386_43129 YES Merlin 386.2.4 386_43129 YES...

Unable to add your AIMesh node - RT-AC1900P (RT-AC68U) Merlin 386.3

@Tech9 Thanks to the details. I guess that shoots a hole in my serial number logic. I had been running the J device as the router and H device as the node. I just tried reversing them hoping to replicated your results, but no joy (Router Merlin 386.2-6 and node on ASUS 386_43129). I assume...

Unable to add your AIMesh node - RT-AC1900P (RT-AC68U) Merlin 386.3

@Tech9, Are you getting the HW rev from the device, box or system (via Putty, etc.)? Mine do not have revs on the units, they only have the serial numbers, MAC and PIN. No boxes. One serial starts J1IAHB and the other H7IAHB. Both have 6 following digits. Reading this post it seems like the...

Unable to add your AIMesh node - RT-AC1900P (RT-AC68U) Merlin 386.3

@Tech9 , Thank you, I was not able to get back to this as fast I had hoped. I reverted to Asuswrt 386_43129 and was able to connect, but it did fail on the first attempt with the same error. Subsequent attempts have been successful. FWIW, I an using 2 ASUS RT-AC1900P, and you reported that...

Unable to add your AIMesh node - RT-AC1900P (RT-AC68U) Merlin 386.3

What I meant was after flashing one needs to login to the device and I only complete the required prompts for the Quick Install process before attempting to add the AIMesh node, no other confg. I have actualy had these devices setup as AIMesh on the last 2 stock and Merlin builds with no issue...

Unable to add your AIMesh node - RT-AC1900P (RT-AC68U) Merlin 386.3

I am experiencing similar issues to what is discussed in this post. LSS, it appears I mistakenly attempted to configure AIMesh with Ethernet connected (device had been set up as an AP). I am now stuck with the recurring message "Unable to add your AIMesh node". I have reset the nodes multiple...

    USB Issues in AP Mode

Unfortunately the BlueCave is on v ...384 which I believe is AiMesh 1.0. The AiMesh menu option does not appear until the ..386 FW which is AiMesh 2.0. I do not see a newer version of FW (ie 386) for this device. There is a beta 9...384, but I suspect will not help you. Maybe others know.

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

There also is a comparison with the RT-AX68U, which looks like the device may be slightly faster, but highly erratic.

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

@L&LD , What exactly do you mean by "responsiveness" and how do you measure it? What are "WiFI environmental differences"? I tend to think that the device will perform no worse now then it did in 2015, possibly better with newer firmware.

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

I found 2 more reviews on MBReviews that are relevant: RT-AX68U RT-AC68U vs Nighthawk My interpretation of these is: The RT-AX68U performs about the same speed as the RT-AX56U, comparing the charts. The older RT-AC68U is on par with both of these units and better at distance @Tech9 I agree...

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

Thank you all, now were getting somewhere. @Volt , I found the MB Reviews after my post, unfortunately the 56 did not get the scrutiny that the 58 got, but did get a better rating. I also found a broader SNB review here which reference other ASUS and Netgear devices using the same BCM43684...

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

Thank you all for your replies! @L&LD , @Volt , looks like we have very diametrically opposed positions, or as the expression goes, maybe we can agree to disagree. I spent substantial time on the forum and Google and was unable to find anything recent that quantified the performance...

    AX56u/58u or AC86U?

I have basically the same question. @Volt , on post #3, is your first sentence correct about WiFi6 clients outperforming on the AC86U (WiFi 5 device)? @L&LD , can you detail your negative recommendation on the AX56U? The 56 has a Quad core CPU, the 58 a Tri Core CPU. The 58 has a second...

Can't Access USB Drive on AiMesh Node

I know this is an old thread, but one can NOT access the node by trying to directly access it's IP from a browser. Access to the nodes USB config is "hidden" in the AiMesh menu, not under the USB application as one may expect. AiMesh => Select the Node => Management => USB Application It's not...

    USB Issues in AP Mode

So above I say that "This will open a window to configure...". It actually opens a login window to the other router. See the IP address in the URL line at the top. Same creds as the primary device. From there there are 3 sections: Servers Center, Time Machine and Download Master. Servers...

    USB Issues in AP Mode

Duhh, User Error (or lack of knowledge) AiMesh => Select the Node => Management => USB Application This will open a window to configure the USB Application for the node. So it appears that the functionality is enabled by default and just connecting a USB device will allow it to function with...
