Asus Router, Rmerlin Firmware and OpenVPN options for best performance

Not to resurrect an old thread (and I can open a new one if preferable), but what were your findings? No matter where I connect to the RT-AC86U, be it five or 1000 miles away, my download speeds are limited to 5mbps. My network is around 200mpbs when on the LAN. I've done no tinkering; these...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I have all of Asus' services disabled. On the Privacy tab under Administration, I have revoked all access (I don't use their "extra" stuff).

Pretty sure that cleanbrowsing family blocks proxies and VPNs.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

@jadog Here is my setup. All clients on my network are forced to go back to my router's DNS, thus trapped in the Diversion sink-hole even if they hardcode DNS (using the setting "Router" under global). Except for two clients; those two clients bypass Diversion and are forced to where I specify.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

That's what DNSFilter is for. They cannot bypass it if you set it up correctly. https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/DNS-Filter

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

You're going to have a rough time finding the perfect 'adult' blocklist. My recommendation is to use cleanbrowsing family DNS upstream: https://cleanbrowsing.org/filters#family

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

There are Safari content blockers available for iOS, but I've noticed they really slow down browsing (NoMoRoBo comes to mind). For mobile, I do what you're doing: stick to Brave + pixelserv-tls; my experience has been incredibly fast and efficient.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

This is not necessarily true. Take a look at my previous post regarding this topic: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/diversion-the-router-ad-blocker.48538/page-198#post-521027

Not to turn this into a "I use these lists" discussion, but this is a good mix: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/alternates/gambling/hosts http://sysctl.org/cameleon/hosts https://hosts-file.net/ad_servers.txt https://mirror1.malwaredomains.com/files/domains.hosts...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I believe you need to update pixelserv-tls to version 2.3.0, regenerate a certificate, and install it on your phone. From the diversion.ch website: 1. Update Diversion to this latest version. 2. Install Jack Yaz's pixelserv-tls v2.3.0 in ep, 6, 3 3. Re-generate the pixelserv-tls CA certificate...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Funny, when I am running pixelserv-tls, I seem to get shorter, quicker 3-5 seconds ads advertising YouTube Red - or whatever it's called now (in Spanish no-less, no idea why that's the case). I think blocking ads on YouTube has been cluttered with all kinds of anecdotal evidence. I remember the...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Interesting discussion over on the Pi-hole subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/e00rar/bad_news_unblockable_web_trackers_emerge_good/

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I seem to have resolved the issue by uninstalling skynet, formatting the USB drive as ext4, one partition, and reinstalling everything. Cruising along (so far).

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Is there a command-line way to remove Diversion?

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/DNS-Privacy NOTE: There is currently an issue with the popular DoT/DoH test site provided by Cloudflare where it will fail to use properly signed DNSSEC hostnames during the test, causing the test to fail to correctly detect that you are using DoT...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

I run this exact same setup on 7 different routers; first time I've seen something like this. I also make everyone buy the same USB drive, and I did not this time (he had one handy). I wonder if indeed the issue is with the drive (I have no idea which he has). This is the one I've always had...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Yes, that is the exact order of operation. amtm > format drive > one partition > ext2 > install Diversion > install Skynet > 2GB swap file > worked fine last night > VPN to his house this morning > aforementioned problem above.

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

How? When I launch diversion, it forces an install. I see no menus... my options are install or break with ctrl-c.

No uninstall option. When I click on (1) it just starts that installation process again. Unless I can uninstall Diversion from the command line?
