Would I benefit from DOCSIS 3.1?

Cool - I really wanted the SB8200 for its stout construction and form factor, but went with the MB8600 instead. Just upgraded service from what I guess was Xfinity 150/10 (same plan for years) to 250/10. Speed tests show ~290/12 and all is good so far. $20/mo cheaper, go figure. Wanted to...

Would I benefit from DOCSIS 3.1?

Up for 2.5 days since install. Nothing fishy in the modem log. My gateway runs/logs periodic speed and latency tests. No complaints with the SB6140, but the MB8600 is more consistent over time and latency went from 8ms with occasional spikes to 7ms flat as Kansas. Browsing feels a bit...

Would I benefit from DOCSIS 3.1?

MB8600 is now setup, connected @ 3.1 with 34/4 channels and working well. Will benchmark later (how best to do that?). FYI, for Xfinity users, couldn't get the security image or audio alternative to work correctly with Chrome. Edge worked no problem. Activated online via texted code and...

What modem are you on now? BK

Would I benefit from DOCSIS 3.1?

Not sure of the best place to pose this question.... I have Xfinity 200/20 through a SB6140 modem to a Ubiquiti USG4. Works fine, no complaints. Might bump my speed, but probably not to Gb. Ends up being cheaper, go figure. Evidently DOCSIS 3.1 is fully deployed in my area. Even if I don't...

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

Several days in and I'm VERY happy with the new setup. Not even a hiccup so far. The centralized management is great. Makes for easy tuning and measurement/monitoring. Can be a bit of work to hunt around for the options and learn the interface, and I do see where a hardcore expert or...

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

Trip, funny you should mention.....in a moment of "weakness" I also just purchased a USG-PRO and 150W 16-port POE+ switch (rackmount). Unless the rackmount full-stack disappoints, I plan to return the ER4. Ease of centralized management sucked me in. Anticipating a couple more APs and...

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

After much consideration and analysis paralysis, took delivery today: - Router = EdgeMAX ER4 - AP = single UAP-AC-PRO + 48V PoE injector - Switch = same/keep (Netgear 10GS8Tv1) - Modem = same/keep (Motorola SB6141) Will retire the N66 for backup duty or use it as an additional AP. BK

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Whoops, if I read the matrix correctly I should have used the Restoration Tool instead of the GUI. I unplugged everything and connected directly, reset before/after, clean restored nvram. Firmware update itself took <10min. All seems OK and running smoothly. BK

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Big success updating my RT-N66U from Merlin 374.35_4-sdk5 to John's latest. Used the nvram transfer utility to save/restore settings. Day #2 and all seems well. Thanks so much for making these available. I looked several times for the '@UpgradeMatrix.txt' mentioned in post #1. Was this...

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

Thanks, guys. Good input and lots to think about. Still debating Edge vs. Uni vs. future plans. BK

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

I did more homework and I think I get it now; Edge vs. UniFi is mainly about device level vs. system level integration and control. UniFi can also take the "cloud key" unit. UniFi seems like a convenient GUI "ecosystem" with remote possibilities. The UniFi USG router seems overdue for a...

    Ubiquiti discrete components?

My Asus RT-N66U/Merlin has been great, but is getting long in the tooth and I need better wifi coverage. Pretty much sold on discrete components, and Ubiquiti seems like a good choice. Looking for something well made and rock solid, with a bit a flexibility for the future (and not too tricky...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.264.22 is out

Drop down on the traffic monitor page is not working correctly for me after setting new individual IP feature - see pic. If clicked, I just get a thin vertical strip. Is this an IE issue? BK

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

Actually, according to a chart I came across, it seems to be correct and just some non-intuitive terminology. My setup matches Channel 6 Lower. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless-N_Configuration BK

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

Got my new N66U on Friday with firmware 112. Installed 178.15 today and love it! 2.4GHz/N-only/Control Channel 6/40MHz setting... Extension Channel: Lower and Upper are reversed according to inSSIDer 2.1? Set to 6 + Lower and inSSIDer shows 6 + 10. Set to 6 + Upper and inSSIDDer...
