    A security advice: Switch to OpenVPN through the router. PPTP isn't that secure anymore. Iguess there should a way to enable this for the client (If not: What kind of ancient device are you using as a client?)

    Simple solution: Buy a cheap legacy AP with PS support or router (use as AP) and connect it to your Asus.

    You might want to be more specific which traffic you are expecting to be recognized as 'download'. 'Some traffic' is not really clear .... You mean torrents?
