Years.... Looks like I am little older than you, Hi. Still swing my bug(Vibroplex President) on the air baiting old timers, LOL!

RT-AC68U Most used LEDs (WAN, Power..) seem to fade away a bit (get dimmer) because of high mileage?

I only keep the power LED on, all others off. On theory all solid state components have a life span but I never seen anyone who died from old age yet, LOL!

    Wireless dropping 5Ghz band - ASUS AC56U

How is the signal strength between 2.4 and 5GHz band? Maybe your device is fringe area of 5GHz range? Using WiFi analyzer look at the signal strength. Using different channel makes difference too because signal strength is not equal between channels.

    High Gain Antennas

Don't know how many Hi, I beat you by couple years being a Ham(VE6CGX, ex-HM1AY), LOL! Gain, radiation angle(X and Y plane), direction, beam width are all inter acting. Gain works on both TX and RX. RF, antenna engineering is pretty complex. Spent half of my career there until I switched to...

Strange thing happened with my AC5300 - Can anyone shed light?

If two signasl occupy same channel the stronger one wins. Also use 20MHz bandwidth on already crowded 2.4GHz band.

4K UHD streaming problem. Is it my router?

Dumb question. If OP has a Vizio TV, does it have latest firmware? M or P-series set? Or older D-series? Another place you can get some useful info. is AVS forum where I frequently visit. Recently I redid my home theater, new latest receiver and all. No problems with any source material...

    Broken power button

My router is on 24/7, 365 days a year. Most electronic devices in my house stay on standby mode. Of course it uses some fraction of power meaning some $$ but Turning every thing off and on too frequently may increase a chance of shortening the life of any device. Never experienced button failure...

too many wifi in the area

Attitude adjustment is on order. Meaning you just can't handle the situation with only one router. Time to start thinking. Amplifying signal may not be a good solution which will cause more interference. For the experimental sake if you increase RF power 100 times, that will be 20db gain on the...

    Nighthawk R7000P or R7800

You will pick one according to your needs. R7800 is newer different class router. I own a R7800. R7000 I had was LONG passed on. I am using the router for simple home networking. Only extra is small 2 bay Synology NAS, two wireless printers are connected. It's been working very well for me...

Reduced my RT-AC68U cpu temp by -18c

When you crunch the number it shows difference. So do you use most power efficient, high capacity PSU? The current draw is a few mA for a fan. Some times actual experiences in the field is more valuable than just text book knowledge.

Reduced my RT-AC68U cpu temp by -18c

All things man made has life expectancy. Electronics components/devices has something called MTBF. Dusty(dirty) environment will surely shorten MTBF, IMO. Our cleaning lady once mentioned ourhouse always has little to dust compared to other houses. Sure we don't have much dust causing things in...
