5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

5G settings are 100% stock the way the firmware ships, with the exception of MAC address filtering turned on, and obviously turning on encryption. None of the variables previously tested in this thread have been changed from the defaults that are set upon loading. I have multiple devices...

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

I have been running on 382.1 for 11+ days now and I can safely state that it has resolved the issue where 5GHz stops broadcasting as described in the following thread: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/5ghz-stops-broadcasting-on-merlin-380-68_2-and-above-ac3100.41485/

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

11 days and no issues. Think it's fair to say 382.1 has officially resolved this particular problem.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

48 hours and not a single issue. Too early to call it, but things are looking good.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Just installed and configured 382.1. Will report back periodically with results.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

I'm eagerly waiting for the official release. Based on previous successful tests of the 382 Asus official firmware, I'm expecting it will work.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

While I know this would be a huge PITA, it would be very interesting to see what happens if you flashed to official Asus RT-AC3100_3.0.0.4_382_15852 and left the setting defaulted to 20/40/80, as well as the default settings for the rest of the ones tested in this thread. For me, this resolved...

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

How would a power supply issue explain previous Merlin builds or official Asus firmware working for months with no issues, as well as reproducible conditions on Merlin builds identified as having this issue earlier in this thread? What test and control conditions did you have in place and what...

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

That is, return it OR run official Asus firmware :( Excellent addition to the thread with this info.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Your signature line indicates you're running the official Asus firmware. Is that the case?

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Up and running now for 51+ hours with no issue. Since this uptime is twice as long as any previous time frame before 5GHz stopped broadcasting, I think I'm going to call it and state that the fix appears to be changing 20/40/80 to 40MHz. This matches the conclusion reached by @ScottW , @JMB64...

Woke up to both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi networks being disabled. Something is broken.

Check this thread - good chance it could be related: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/5ghz-stops-broadcasting-on-merlin-380-68_2-and-above-ac3100.41485/

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

You've got some variables in play that are relevant to the issue at hand - forcing a Control Channel instead of Auto and completely disabling 2.4GHz (untested on this thread). If you enabled 2.4GHz and changed Control Channel back to the default setting of Auto, it would be interesting to see...

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Been up and running with no issues for just under 24 hours now. While it is still too early to "call it", lets assume that the singular setting of changing from 20/40/80 to 40MHz is the "fix" for the issue where a router stops broadcasting the 5GHz signal on recent Merlin builds. If that is...

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

I did for many years, until it became apparent that the downsides of hiding the SSID outweigh the advantages from a security perspective. For the purposes of this issue, SSID is not hidden and hasn't been.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Yes, tried that as stated in my first post: "I flashed back down to 380.68_0 using my overblown method above, same problem. Flashed back down to 380.67_0, same problem. Flashed back down to 380.66_6, same problem."

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Interesting observation... I noticed the other day that the the waveform for 5GHz was unusual... it was a jagged repeat of ups and downs. I don't ever recall the waveform looking like that. After changing to 40MHz, the waveform seems to have flattened out, more what I'm used to seeing. It is...

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Lost 5Ghz after just over and hour. Changed Control Channel back to Auto and changed 20/40/80 to 40Mhz. Will report back with results.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Lost 5Ghz sometime overnight. Changed 80MHz back to 20/40/80, and have now changed Control Channel to 157. Will report back with results.

5Ghz Stops Broadcasting on Merlin 380.68_2 and above - AC3100

Under 3.5 hours before 5Ghz disappeared. Re-enabled Universal Beamforming and changed channel bandwidth to 80 MHz. Will report back with results.
