Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

Don't have any into depth knowledge on security. I only know it offers 128 bit end to end tunnelling.

Or use PPTP/L2TP (which does basically the same). It's also much easier to configure.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

At first glance everything seemed to work fine for me (including PPTP VPN), except clients on the first (most left) 2,4 GHz guest network could not connect to the internet. That's the main reason i reverted to 384.19. Having said that i think Merlin has done a great job (again) :). As far as...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

I did a "dirty " upgrade (384.19>386.1b1) and downgrade (386.1b1>384.19) without any problems. Seems to me that your router might have a possible hardware error, i suggest you make a backup of your settings (via web interface and partly via SSH console for client names and stuff) and try a full...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

Hi, Don't know if this is the right place, but noticed 2 things after installing 386.1 beta 1 on my AC2900. - Clients on Guest network 1 (2,4 GHz) can't access internet - CPU temperature appears to be +/- 5 degr. Celsius higher compared to 384.19

    Normal temp for RT-AC88u?

The AC86U runs rather hot (too). Mine ran at CPU Temp = Tamb + 55 degrees Celsius idling. There are external fans though, powered by one of its USB ports. Made one myself and managed to get CPU Temp to Tamb + 40 degrees Celsius. Have a look over here...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

I remember that, it was the same thing for me. Disconnecting antenna's did not make any difference in signal strength on 2,4 GHz. In fact i could not make out which antenna was for 2,4 GHz.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Why not send it in. It doesn't hurt to try. Also read previous posts from user Garrhaal

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

See if i get this right. So with no clients connected at a given band, be it 2,4 or 5GHz, the Asus somehow dims it's radio as in some sort of energy saving mode. That is not what i encountered, mainly because i always have a few 2,4 GHz clients up. That would also mean that when none of my 2,4...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Serious??? Like to know how Asus handles this and the follow up. Still believe it's a potential great router. Please keep us informed.

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Expected a lot from the 88, but ended up disappointed :( Sent it back and got a refund. Tried a Netgear R7800 on Voxel's and OpenWrt (works nice):), Currently running 2 Netgear R7000's on Xwrt working in AiMesh (works nicer):):)

How is the UDM, hardware wise?

I'm fond of my Netgear R7800 on OpnWrt and it can be wall mounted. Got it running on OpenWrt only recently. I've had Voxel's FW on it before, which is pretty much an improved clone of Netgear's FW. My first impressions of OpenWrt are positive. Rich of features, that lack in OFW and Voxel's...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

Get a Netgear R7800 and put Voxel's FW or OpenWrt on it ;-)

    RT-AC86U or RT-AX88U

And the word was..... Netgear's R7800 on Voxel's FW beats the AX88U hands down on 2,4GHz, AX slightly better on 5Ghz. Got a refund and saved some bucks as well. Bought the R7800 secondhand for a quarter of the AX's price. Edit: R7800 on OpenWrt offers slightly less WiFi performance compared to...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

My Zyxel i.c.w. Samsung S5 peaks at -12 dB on 2,4 Ghz at zero distance. Tested with WiFi Analyzer Pro. Never ever seen that figures on my AX88U. Despite the excellent Noise floor of ~-95-100 dBm, RSSI was always weak ~-70-100dBm, which left almost no workable SNR of 20 dB or more. More info over...

    RT-AC86U or RT-AX88U

There has been a whole debat on this subject over here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/wi-fi-signal-strength-rt-ac86u-v-rt-ax88u.61856/ It seems some people face these 2,4 Ghz problems, while others don't. There's no consensus as to why, though it clearly points to a driver issue

    RT-AC86U or RT-AX88U

After 1 1/2 month of struggling to get the 2,4 Ghz coverage right, i send the AX88U back and asked for a refund because of: VERY POOR 2,4 Ghz performance on FW versions newer than Asus's 30043846436 and Merlin's 384.14 and AVERAGE 2,4 Ghz performance on older FW versions. Relative best...

    Wi-Fi Signal Strength RT-AC86U v RT-AX88U

OK, i'm on A1.1. So there's no relevancy in that. Thanks
