Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Sorry about the length of my first recent post, I have gone back and used the "spoiler" tags to try and shorten it for those using mobiles. I never visit this site on anything other than a PC so would not have thought of that, altho I did use thumbnails when posting the screens. Hopefully that...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

^^^ That is useful to know. Thanks for that :) I had never considered the need, nor probably noticed, their advanced settings before.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Thanks, my biggest issue was that this change with the new firmware altering the JFFS partition coincided with me downloading a new config file for the VPN client. The issues that I started to experience were not related to the JFFS partition, or the implementation of changes made to the OpenVPN...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Ok found out what the problem was, even tho I did a full reset of the router. That was not needed and the restore of the JFFS partition was also not needed....... This is now the connection to the AIRVPN VPN as it should...... the problem was twofold.... AIRVPN has now started including IPv...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Please correct me if I am wrong here. Just putting aside, if we can, the re-partitioning by Asus of the JFFS partition from 48 to 47MB it was always possible to reformat that partition on the next reboot. As noted that is what I did. I ran fine without any errors at all keeping on the 384.18...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Thanks, appreciate that, you too stay safe and well in these troubled times. Maybe I'm wrong but I do not think that my issues are necessarily related to the JFFS changes. I think that they might have something to do with the noted changes to the VPN implementation, but that is not based on...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 is now available

Hello I had been running 384.18 on my 86U fine with no issues. Nothing "exotic" with my needs, apart from using a VPN client. The config for that client is generated successfully by AIRVPN, the online company I use for my VPN needs. Noted the potential issues with the JFFS partition due to its...

[Beta 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.2 Beta is now available

Many thanks for that, appreciate your reply. I could not manage without the policy rule support to separate tunnel and WAN traffic. Thanks again for your good work.

[Beta 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.2 Beta is now available

Sorry if this is an obvious question but I see Version 3.0.0.4.384.10007 for my AC 86U but when I bought mine I never looked at the std firmware and instead immediately flashed to this Merlin one. So what I do not know is if the std Asus firmware has similar support for a Open VPN client, along...

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

I'm not suggesting that I'm knowledgeable about these things but as much of the allocation, 132MB in my case as I type this, is for cache and thus can be freed up if needed elsewhere. Might be a simplistic way of looking at it but it seems reasonable, and perhaps accurate..!

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

We all seem to agree, with what we see. I don't think of it as a problem but just as how memory is allocated. It varies, but utilises what is available. Better than not being used at all I suppose.

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

I now have 23 devices, my TV and media boxes are powered up, on that list and they all display with friendly names. Not sure why that is different for some.

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

As I mentioned IIRC I have always had a populated list which reflects my connected devices, even with the first release of Merlin for this tablet. I simply flashed the newly bought 86U and did a reset and then build up from there. But yeah I'm on the latest Alpha test build, and all is fine.

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

When I noted "at the moment" IIRC I have seen 24 or so devices on that list and they too have been all appropriately named. Well actually there is one device that I do not recognise by its default IP address and so I'll have to find that one manually - just not bothered doing that yet.

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

At the moment I am seeing 17 devices connected to the 86U and have renamed most of them to a friendly description within the menus you have noted. They all display fine and, afaik, all my devices are accounted for. I am running the latest Alpha test build but it seemed to be like that previously.

[Alpha] Pre-release test builds available (both 380 and 382 branches)

FWIW the latest Alpha is the first one for the 86U which has successfully been able to reboot the router, rather than simply powering it down, when selected from the options to reboot.

[Alpha] Pre-release test builds available (both 380 and 382 branches)

Flashed the 382.2 Alpha release for my 86U and it has been rock solid with no issues. Traffic routing and OpenVPN client performance is great.

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

Without understand the technical reasons as to why you feel as you do I am glad that you have supported the 86U. Whilst it might indeed have some limitations it's VPN client performance is simply amazing, as is your modified firmware. I'm sure that there are other commendable aspects to the 86U

    [Release 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.1 is now available

Mine is just the same. I was a little worried at first. I thought that it was just taking its time to reboot but instead it completely shuts down. Thankfully I remembered reading your post and so power cycling it with the switch on the back brought it back to life. Same revision of firmware...
