    WiFi 7 is outdated already.

Why doors, why walls? Why really practical? The most important are the results in speed tests. ;)

    Why not run a wire?

    Starting to despair

Why do you need this channel? You checked, you know it doesn't work well. Use another (or Auto channel). Be happy, it works. That's all.

    Starting to despair

It made sense 10-20 years ago. As @drinkingbird wrote - set 20 MHz and auto, see what the router will choose most often and check how it works.

    Asus AX options for brother

Look for RT-AX86S under 150 USD, they've been on sale for as low as $130. If the brother has small needs, models priced below $100 may be enough.

    Starting to despair

This is possible for AX on 2,4 GHz. AX on 2,4 GHz and channel 20 MHz will allow to get a speed of over 220 Mbps.

    Antenna placement

Hard to say. Probably plastic sticking out that does nothing.

RT-AX86U Pro .... better range and stability than RT-AC86U ?

RT-AX86S (not U) should be cheaper (approx. 130-150 USD).

    ASUS RT-AX88U - 1Gbits Internet not working

Instead of next RT-AX88U Pro, use real APs (Omada, Unifi, Zyxel, Cisco etc.) - AX are $100-150 each.

    Antenna placement

It's hard to talk about the whole thing without knowing about the project, but it's better to place this one on or under or next to the TV.

    ASUS RT-AX88U - 1Gbits Internet not working

Crazy! But as you can see, Asus marketing works great!

    Antenna placement

Is it attached to the tv? TV strongly blocks signal transmission...

    ax86u vs ax88u Pro vs GT-ax6000 vs GT-ax11000

As I wrote, the new firmware applies to VLAN on selected models (Kids' Wi-Fi, VPN WiFi, IoT WiFi, Port isolation and AP isolation, Multi-services WAN). RT-AX86U will probably continue to be supported (firmware updates) for a similar amount of time as GT-AX6000. You have to evaluate what features...

    ax86u vs ax88u Pro vs GT-ax6000 vs GT-ax11000

If you don't need port 2.5GbE for LAN or VLAN support, it's not worth paying extra 100$.

    RT AC86U or RT AC5300

These are cheap models good for AP or node. They are constantly promoted and supported. As far as I remember RT-AX53U is Qualcomm and RT-AX55 is Broadcom (like RT-AX56U). That's right, it was a great router but I wouldn't buy a used one to work as an AP when I can get a new AX for the same price.

RT-AX86U Pro .... better range and stability than RT-AC86U ?

RT-AX82U=RT-AX58U=RT-AX3000=TUF-AX5400 etc. Better check the RT-AX86S price if the GT-AX6000 is too expensive. RT-AX86S is a new, improved version of RT-AC86U.

Why so narrow band in 5ghz?

I wrote to see what the router will choose, not to set "Auto" it permanently. Though leaving the "Auto" on works fine too. 24 hours is definitely not enough for good conclusions. Syslog is your friend ;)

    RT AC86U or RT AC5300

If it has to be Asus router and not real AP I'd probably go for new RT-AX53U or new RT-AX55 or something similar for 80$ or less.
