    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

@arthurlien Is Aimesh supposed to give us a dedicated backhaul when using triband routers? I am using 2 RT-AC5300 and I get clients connecting to all 3 radios so there is no dedicated wireless backhaul.

    RT-AC5300 3.0.0.4.384_20379 Fixed KRACK

You could always try to rest with the WPS button. Q: How do I wipe my settings? Reset button does not work. A: If the firmware fails to boot, then the reset button won't work. Turn the router off, press the WPS button. While keeping it pressed turn the router back on. Wait a few seconds, then...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

It really all depends on your needs. I was using Orbi prior to Aimesh and it worked fine for me as well. One of the main things I didn't like about Orbi is that it lacks features and doesn't give a ton of control over the setup. For instance, with Orbi you are required to use the same SSID for...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Based on user feedback from these various forum threads the client lists on the mobile apps and in the web UI pretty much suck at the moment. Although, the mobile apps seem to be slightly better than the web UI.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Yeah just like all those times things like computers and what not came fresh from the factory with viruses and malware already installed.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

That’s exactly why you would want to do a factory reset. If there is a bad configuration it might not be reset until you do a factory reset. It’s possible it came from the factory that way. My guess is your dual IP is a client issue and not an issue with your router. Still amazes me how...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

That is what I said, in the past releases were slow. So far with Aimesh they have been fast. I'm using the RT-AC5300 and there have been 3 official releases since the 26th of January. In general the fastest software development cycle would be on a 2 week cycle but if we got one firmware a month...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Not sure what you expect. The firmware releases have been coming pretty fast actually, especially considering how slow they have come in the past from ASUS. If you take into account the Chinese New Year which is essentially 1 - 2 weeks of no work being done it really hasn't been that long since...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I just tried and get the same message. It worked previously so must be on Asus end.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Are you using Aimesh with nodes setup? Is she connected to the main router or a node when this happens? I know there were some issues with the timezone not staying set correctly so I suppose it is possible if connected to the node it is on a different timezone than the main router.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Smart connect will only work when connected to the router or node that supports it.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Guest networks are going to require much more than a few NVRAM settings. VLANs, routing tables, etc. for starters, definitely not something for the novice to try and configure.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

WPS is only used to connect to a wireless network so once the connection is established unless you are changing passwords or something WPS should not be needed.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

This is what I found as well, once locked you have to reboot to release. I haven’t tried if it is tied to MAC address or not. So make a couple tries, change Mac, make a couple tries, change Mac, etc. I just wish there was something in the logs or in aiprotection that WPS became locked.

    RT-AC5300 3.0.0.4.384_20379 Fixed KRACK

It's best to reconfigure from scratch. Yes, it takes some time but well worth it to keep from having strange issues.

    RT-AC5300 3.0.0.4.384_20379 Fixed KRACK

That's probably why you had issues. This is a major firmware upgrade and you need to do a factory reset. The latest release has been very stable.

    RT-AC5300 3.0.0.4.384_20379 Fixed KRACK

Did you just upgrade the firmware or did you upgrade the firmware and then perform a full factory reset?

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I would suspect in part that the wireless backhauls are always connected even when using an ethernet backhaul so the self-healing can work. I think you over estimate the market. The success will be the fact that they got thousands of people to buy another Asus router that they may not have...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I’ve disabled it via NVRAM commands also and everything still works fine for me too.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Last time I checked this was an Aimesh firmware specific thread. The issue we are discussing is specific to Aimesh. Asus had said that they didn't think WPS was always active but that is not the case if you have Aimesh nodes. I think letting folks know that there is a security risk, albeit a...
