[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I think the router knows a lot more about where the packets come from than the UI is leading you to believe. This can easily be done with VLANs if Asus allowed it via the firmware. Tomato firmware allows it. Orbi from netgear can do it. At any rate, I agree especially in today's climate that...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

It appears so, and hopefully Asus can get the guest network figured out so that it propagates to all the nodes and you won't have to turn it off due to that restriction. They mentioned they are working on it but no guarantees. Kind of sucks that Mr. Schwerer has a node 10ft from his problem...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Well here is what Arthur said about it. Guess he could be mistaken. Original Question: I know this option. Not quite sure if roaming assistant still required with AiMesh on? I saw somebody reported roaming assistant will make the connection drops, and AiMesh can steer a STA to choose a strong...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Interesting, I was just looking at the asus.com/aimesh page and noticed this little blurb. A rock-solid data 'backbone' connects all the AiMesh-enabled routers, with AiMesh intelligently choosing either a wired connection or the optimal frequency band — 5GHz or 2.4GHz. With tri-band routers...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

That's essentially what you are doing when you turn RA off. It seems like in your situation with your distant clients that they disconnected but there wasn't a better node for them to connect to. To me that says you need another node in your mesh. -80dB might be fine for your irrigation but I...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

I agree, doesn't make sense that if you are using an ethernet backhaul that you should need to have the wireless backhaul also connected.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Smart Connect is used to determine which band your device should connect to 2.4, 5G-1, 5G-2 and Roaming Assist is used to determine which router/node in your mesh network to connect to. If you disable roaming assist your devices probably won't switch APs until they physically can't get a...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Traditional Wi-Fi range extenders cut your speeds in half because they are dual band and have to backhaul on the same channel they are serving clients. Does AiMesh fix this? If not then tri band routers would be better. This assumes you aren’t using an Ethernet backhaul.

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Mine appears to be connecting on 5G-2 for the backhaul, but it also puts other devices on the backhaul. Interesting, unless I am misinterpreting this, is that it also creates a backhaul on the 2.4 Ghz radio as well. I would think something like Orbi does would provide the best setup where it...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

No, roaming assist is an integral part of aimesh if I'm not mistaken.

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Bummer, either way it would be nice to have a dedicated channel for the backhaul instead of sharing it with devices. I’m still getting about 10 Mbps when connected to my node. My just have to get rid of it and use only the main router.

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

Thanks, I did do that too! The very low speeds seem to be somewhat intermittent but I never seem to get the speeds I should. I seem to get better speeds with just the router and no nodes. I guess I can play with some settings like beamforming. For those of us on wireless backhaul is there a...

Yes, I am on the latest firmware and that is the firmware I was using when I experienced this issue.

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

I have two RT-AC5300 routers, one as the Aimesh router and one as the Aimesh node. Using the speedtest iOS app as my test case I get great speeds when connected to the main router (130 Mbps) but generally get very poor speeds (around 12 Mbps) when connected to the node even when I am standing...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

I'm using the iOS app also and I can see the wi-fi and wireless clients in the app.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.10007 for All Supported Products

This is where being able to change the transmission power of the radios (or even turn them off) on the Aimesh nodes would be really helpful.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.10007 for All Supported Products

Why do you want to hide the SSID? It only makes things harder and does nothing to improve security. In fact, some will say that hiding your SSID makes it less secure. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28653/debunking-myths-is-hiding-your-wireless-ssid-really-more-secure/

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.10007 for All Supported Products

I think it would be good to have several options. One a guest network where the devices only have internet access and can't communicate with any other device and another option where the guest devices can't access the non-guest network but they can communicate with other devices on the guest...

    AiMesh for Tri-band routers: RT-AC5300, GT-AC5300

In a theoretical world maybe but not in practice. The 1.7 Gbps is the ceiling speed of the Wireless AC adapter you have in your computer but it does't mean that is the current throughput of your wireless connection, big difference. Even if you were sitting right next to your wireless router you...
