Network HDD R/W speeds are slower despite Gbps connectivity ... Why ?

Thanks for the input guys .. Regarding the USB 3.0/2.0, I'm aware that N66U has USB 2.0 ports .. So to rule that out as the reason, I did test transfers using a PC I have which has USB 2.0 ports .. The rates were still above 30 MB/s .. So I guess the reason is a slower CPU on the router ? Is...

Network HDD R/W speeds are slower despite Gbps connectivity ... Why ?

Hi guys ... I have an issue which I can't figure out .. I have a 5 Tb HDD (NTFS, USB 3.0 compatible). When I connect this to a PC directly (tried on both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 computers), the read and write speeds are about 33 ~ 37 MB/sec However, when I connect the HDD directly to my ASUS...

Unable to delete folders in ext. HDD connected to ASUS RT-N66U ..

Hi guys .. So about a month or so back I managed to connect a 5TB Seagate NTFS drive to my ASUS RT-N66U (374.41 Merlin). I'll post my previous discussion thread links below for those interested. The issue I have now is that there are some folders which I created on my networked 5TB drive, but...

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

I've used the drive a little bit, and I get speeds around 5 ~ 8 MB/sec ... If only the router was USB 3.0 capable, it would have been awesome ! (My files are huge!)

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

Actually I did some hit and trials today, and it seems that anything higher than 4096 bytes Allocation Unit Size works ! Thats the whole 5 Tb NTFS partition with no splits. I tried 4096 bytes, 8192 bytes, 16K, 32K & 64K allocation unit sizes. All worked except the Windows default 4096 bytes. I...

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

    I don't suppose a 4Gb and a 1Gb partition would work ? Anyhow I'll try the suggestions tonight.

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

Hmm, okay. Thanks for your input guys. So if I split the 5Gb into two 2.5Gb NTFS partitions, and then attach the HDD to my RT-N66U, will I be able to access both partitions ?

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

I skimmed through that link, but not sure what direct conclusion to draw from it. Its suggested that problem is with the enclosure and not the hard drive ? .. I don't even know what this means ..

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

Well that's kind of a bummer .. Isn't there any way to use the drive with the RT-N66U using a single 5 Gb (~ 4.54 GB) NTFS partition ? I really don't want to use a filesystem not compatible with Windows (since everything on my network is Windows based), and I also don't want to break up...

5TB External HDD (AC powered) not mounting ?

Hi guys ... So I recently purchased a 5TB Seagate HDD to use with my RT-N66U (with Merlin 374.41). The problem is that when I connect the HDD to the router, I get an 'Unmounted' message in the router's Network Map. Here's the log that I see on the router when I connect the HDD to it: Jun 30...

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

What do you guys think about the above stated fix ? Is that a practical reason which can explain the behaviour I was seeing before ?

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

Okay, I may have found the cause .. My Router (RT-N66U) was acting as a DHCP server, with the 192.168.1.x scheme. My modem however was using 10.10.10.x scheme, but the only device connected to it was my Router .. Today I called the cable guy, and I tried out several different modems (connected...

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

The modem in question has only been used for like 2-3 months .. Plus, the oddest thing is that when I directly connect my laptop to the modem, the internet working fine .. no issues at all whatsoever .. I can call the phone company and ask them to replace the modem, but they will need definite...

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

Alright, so I have some more info to report. I sort of got it working with a workaround, but still no actual fix. I actually have two phone lines in my house, and both of them have separate internet connections on them. Both internet connections are from the same company, same package, and so...

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

Okay, I enabled SSH on the router, then connected via SSH. Again I saw the same lossy ping as before. Here are the full results: login as: admin admin@192.168.1.1's password: ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-N66U_3.0.0.4 Fri Apr 18 19:31:25 UTC 2014 admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ping 8.8.8.8 PING...

RT-N66U Router not connecting to Internet ?

Just tried that, and it didn't help. I didn't expect this to work though because the Ethernet cable I've put in my house for internal networking was all high grade stuff, and all internal networking is still working fine .. I also tried connecting to the Internet through the Router, but using...
