Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 beta is now available for AC models

I had to revert back to version 386.3_2 as 386.9 Beta also has the ARP/ICMP issue. As it stands today, every release after 386.3_2 has the issue.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 beta is now available for AC models

Wow. And Christmas has already passed. I just did a dirty upgrade. Anxious to see if the ICMP/ARP issues stop as well as DNSFIlter returning to old behavior regarding blocking IPv6 DNS requests. Working so far... Thanks!

RT-AC3100 - Intermittently can't ping devices on the Network

I have had the same issue on my AC5300 running Merlin code. The issue was discussed in several other threads. I have attached one example of one thread below. I'm not sure if the issue is specific to Merlin or to the native ASUS firmware. However, revering back to Merlin 386.3_2 immediately...

arp problem between wifi devices on RT-AC88u

I mean take a screenshot of your DHCP reservation page so you can do a comparison before and after.

arp problem between wifi devices on RT-AC88u

Also, take a screen shot before just so you know.

arp problem between wifi devices on RT-AC88u

If they are mangled up, all you have to do is click the edit button and re-add them. That will fix them.

arp problem between wifi devices on RT-AC88u

The only issue I had with the downgrade were messed up entries in the DHCP reservation list (if you have any). It was easy to fix buy just updating each entry. Other than that, no issues expect the arp/ping problem was fixed.

arp problem between wifi devices on RT-AC88u

This sounds like the problem I experienced on my RT-AC5300 where I cannot ping wifi devices after upgrading to any version past 386.3_2. The problem doesn't show up immediately. It shows up after a few days. I have to reboot the router to resolve the issue. Then it shows up again a few or...

    AX88U + 386.8 IPv6 intermittent

I know. I wanted to help you out and put on the stock firmware. But, I just can't go a couple of days without the features.

    AX88U + 386.8 IPv6 intermittent

I can't. There are Merlin features I use that are not in stock firmware.

    AX88U + 386.8 IPv6 intermittent

Thanks a lot for the information. I had no idea. Well, I guess I will start looking for an upgrade or just be happy with what I have.

    AX88U + 386.8 IPv6 intermittent

This does indeed sound at least similar to my problem. Just to be clear, the problem isn't just with IPv6. It's more specifically with ICMP traffic. Since IPv6 relies on ICMP for router announcements, it's a big issue for IPv6. It may also be a problem for other types of traffic. To...

are there any changes to mDNS in the 388 code base

I'm not sure the changes with wifi are due to HomeKit though. I turned off HomeKit on everything just for testing and tvOS 16 still keeps both active. The problem is easy to work around anyway by forgetting the WiFi network.

are there any changes to mDNS in the 388 code base

tvOS 16.0 and 16.1 in some ways made things worse. Apple TV's connected to ethernet now keep both the WiFi and ethernet interfaces active at the same time. This is not only confusing, the Apple TV is also sending out RA's through both interfaces. Who knows if this is a bug or a planned change...

are there any changes to mDNS in the 388 code base

I didn't comment because of mDNS. I commented because the issue showed up with me due to my Home Hub being an Apple TV connected to the ASUS through ethernet. My HomeKit devices are wifi. The problem breaks HomeKit in two ways: 1). When ICMP breaks between ethernet and wifi and 2). When IPv6...

are there any changes to mDNS in the 388 code base

The problem is bigger than HomeKit. HomeKit was just one of the symptoms. The issue I was having was traffic between wired devices and wifi devices. It mostly involved icmp traffic. But it wasn't limited to icmp. The biggest problem was with IPv6 traffic and losing RA's from the router. The...

are there any changes to mDNS in the 388 code base

I started having HomeKit issues on my RT-AC5300 after the January Merlin update. I reverted back to version 386.3_2 and haven't had a problem since.

    Thank You @RMerlin

    Yes. Many thanks.

    IPv6 passthrough disadvantages?

I''m sorry. Respectfully, thats not true. The IPv6 firewall is enabled whether you use passthrough or not. I can prove that with my own AC5300. I am running in passthrough mode, inbound IPv6 traffic is blocked (by default). Once I turn off the IPv6 firewall or allow exceptions through it...

    IPv6 passthrough disadvantages?

It does not bypass the firewall. I am currently running in that configuration. Your scripts and DoT settings will still work. And yes, its safe. BTW, even under your prior configuration under Native connection type, each device had a separate IPv6 address that passes through the firewall as...
