Possibility for porting AsusWrt Merlin firmware on Netgear R7800 X4S

Asus has only one device that’s very close to R7800 - it is BRT-AC828. But its firmware is a piece of sh#t and gets tons of complains (asus is ‘amature’ in qualcomm). AC828 is relatively new so maybe time will tell and they be able to cook something good later.

Well, just one remark and stop the offtopic. Voxel, your participation in the project depends on how much you actually interesting in it. What you want to get: new experience, fame, donations, free samples, job in a netgear, or that your tweaks are licensed as netduma’s work. If you want to be a...

Netgear xr500 your experiences with this router.

I respect the work of programmers since I am a programmer too (mainly in embedded devices). routers are a hobby and I'm aiming to get a quick result and use them for main purpose or get fun. each router software is far from perfect and sometimes it's better not even to know what's under the...

Netgear xr500 your experiences with this router.

Well, I can try to replace the openssl libs on those that use Voxel in his firmware. Plus, there are several other common libraries that do not depends on DumaOS. Recompilation is certainly good, but Voxel's fw also has a bunch of closed source NG/Qualcomm blobs which is also good to recompile...

Let's back to topic. Those who tested DumaOS and returned to the stock fw please describe why you did this?

Netgear xr500 your experiences with this router.

Sorry, there are some checks in dumaos fw that prevents to back to 1.x.x.x fw. I've post the solution on myopenrouter topic. Just unzip it and flash from the GUI and it will brings You to the V1.0.2.46 stock fw.

Netgear xr500 your experiences with this router.

My R7800 DumaOS port has proper flash layout and do not require to change any ID’s. You can flash it directly from the GUI and return to stock if necessary. Overall stability is good, but dumaos binaries are compiled by NG with outdated gcc and without specific hardware optimisations keys so it...

Yeah. If you want to test dumaos before buying xr500 you can do it on r7800. very interesting system, not very stable/fast yet (voxel’s is way better), but time will tell.

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

Though there would be some fun to RE and bypass this BS ;)

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

I have no deal with asus routers so studying their version reinforcements have only educational purposes. But I think it will help to third-party firmware developers that are not certified by ASUS, obtain possibilities to make a custom firmware.

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

I want them to approach seriously to the business, once they decided to limit the creation of custom firmware or rollback. Or it turns out to the imaginary "protection" only for those who are not familiar with the code (unless such protection is sufficient for FCC)...

ASUS firmware will change the verification method

"Brand new" Asus's Anti-Downgrade protection is a total BS! C'mon, ASUS, do not be lazy programmers and implement something more interesting than ~*0x8FDC30+*0x24E4 "checksum" :)

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56 is available

@RMerlin, sometimes you more sarcastic than the FCC :) Do not forget, you do the custom firmware. BTW we able to redefine regional settings in the CFE itself. See my post.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56 is available

The problem with the overclock persistence caused by refresh_cfe_nvram function. It is located in the closed part of the source code (ate-broadcom). It's opens /dev/mtd0 (CFE) FLSH area, passes all the variables, and does nvram_set. So clkfreq resets to default values at next boot. The function...
