    My node now keeps going offline. And when it's online, nothing connects to it. So you're saying to go to 388.1? I thought there were more issues with that version. Should I go back to 386.7_2 on my AX11000 and leave the stock firmware on the AC5300?

    So I'm trying to do this based on your reply (thanks). I upgraded the ac68u to Merlin 386.7_2. I did the factory reset. Left the power on. Not sure what "standby" refers to. My AC5300 finds the AC68U, but fails to add it as a node: I'm not sure what to try next. The routers are 1m apart.

    That will only work if I forego using the Arris cable modem, which is not a router, and continue to rent for $14/month. So you're saying I'm wasting my time starting over with the Asus router because it will break again at some point?

    Hard resetting the modem to defaults resulted in a DHCP IP right away. Why wouldn't I want to do that? At a minimum I'd need to do some port forwarding to get Openvpn to work. There's at least one other issue that I can't recall right now.
