    Wireless Devices losing Internet connection

I'm in a single family home and I'm not sure I'm close enough for my neighbors to be stepping on my signal. I might do a factory reset, re-flash my current Merlin version and restore my configuration to see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

    Wireless Devices losing Internet connection

I'm running an RT-AC5300 (with Merlin 384.14_2). On Monday morning, I booted my work laptop which complained that despite connecting to my router (guest WiFi) lacked Internet access. My work cell phone (guest WiFi) and personal cell phone (principal WiFi) were both fine, as was my wired...

Router settings GUI - extremely slow page loads since 384.12

I have an RT-AC5300 and with 384.11 (maybe also 384.10 but I can't recall) I had terrible performance using Firefox. Edge and IE both worked fine. Now that I'm on 384.12, Firefox is working great again. For what it's worth, I didn't really do much troubleshooting since changing browsers...

    OpenVPN schedule VPN Client restart?

I'm running Merlin's 384.9 and lately my OpenVPN Client has been disconnecting daily with "authentication failed" messages. But every time I log in to the router and click to turn it on, it authenticates fine. Sometime later, it's back to "authentication failed". I seem to recall on an...

Dual WAN Failover - Freedompop USB?

Now that I have a number of smart devices (thermostat, security cams, etc) in my home, I'm finding internet outages a bit more than a nuisance when I'm away from home. I'm considering a FreedomPOP USB CDMA modem to use in my AC-5300 (Dual WAN - failover). I'm just not finding much current...

    Notification of successful VPN connection?

Thanks for both replies! I'll look into Martineau's script soon. As for changing the port, I have a few relatives (not in my area) that once in a while connect using my VPN and I'm not sure I can change the default port easily without possibly breaking them.

    Notification of successful VPN connection?

I seldom need to connect back to my Asus router via OpenVPN, but I'd prefer to leave it enabled just in case. When I do that, there seems to be a lot of attempts to connect. I don't suppose anything can be done about attempts. But I would like to be sent a notification email of any successful...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.7 is now available

This still being pretty new to me, I just flashed from AC5300_384.4_2 to AC5300_384.7_0. The release notes recommend doing a factory default: Updating from a firmware version that is more than 3 releases older. So on the downloads page it appears that this is the 4th release after the one I...

ovpn-server1 log entries - intrusion attempts?

I'm seeing lots of ovpn-server messages in my logs recently. I don't recall seeing similar ones before. I have temporarily stopped the VPN server because I don't need it right now. Before turning it off, I did verify that I could successfully connect to it from outside my home. Is someone...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

OK, I'm wading in here without reading the entire thread, so I might have to take a light beating, but I found that I'm having Web GUI problems in Firefox lately, that I never had before. But Internet Explorer continues to work just fine! (Windows 10 with current updates and Firefox Quantum 60+)

    Move to new Synology

I want to replace my DS412+ with a new DS918+with new disks. I want to switch from ext4 to BTRFS. I want to duplicate my data, encryption keys, backup tasks, other scheduled tasks. In the end, I want the new NAS to have the name of the one I'm replacing and the same two IP addresses. I haven't...

    Noob afraid to upgrade Merlin

Just to follow up on my thread, I decided to postpone this upgrade until some extended-stay guests departed. I did this yesterday and it went pretty well, though I did learn one lesson. I didn't realize my screen captures cut off the bottom of every screen! So I had to guess at a few...

    Noob afraid to upgrade Merlin

I recently got a new router, RT-AC5300, and I went ahead and flashed to Merlin 380.69_2, figuring I had nothing to lose if things went wrong. Well, it all went just fine! But now I'm seeing there's a new version and I see: "It's generally recommended to do a factory default reset when coming...
