    Remote access RT-3200 ?

I see your point. It is a good security policy to prevent root access everywhere but even this does not make things secure without patching. Take Android as an example. I principle it is also encapsulated by not allowing root access to apps but still something like "Stagefright" could happen...

    Remote access RT-3200 ?

Well that may be true but in the enterprise world it is all about cloud controlling devices - which is essentially the same thing. Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti Unifi etc. is all about exposing the devices on the WAN to a central cloud administration. Taken into account how security always is top...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

You have been able to buy 3x3 ac laptops since 2013. They are simply Broadcom based instead of Intel. Which also makes sense since this is one of Broadcom's key areas. So for many users 3x3 ac makes sense. My phone also has 2x2 ac and no way it is overkill. If you sync big video files...

    Current Stability of RT-AC3200

Also went from the RT-AC87U to AC3200. SmartConnect gave minor issues and I disabled it (less critical users would problaly not mind it being on). Overall the AC3200 has been stable so far in the two weeks I had it. Better than RT-AC87U IMO.

    Asus EA-AC87 CANCELLED?

Well SmartConnect does work but it does have som issues and like everyone else I have disabled it. However I still take advantage of the two 5GHz radios by manually assigning fast devices to the "fast" radio and slower ones to the other. Yes SmartConnect is not perfect but the idea of two 5GHz...

    Asus EA-AC87 CANCELLED?

I seems pretty much the same. The stability seems better though :-)

    Asus EA-AC87 CANCELLED?

Well good call Asus. The EA-AC87 does not work with RT-AC87U on the 9177 firmware which is just absurd. So either I downgraded the RT-AC87U to a less stable version or had a useless EA-AC87. Neither was acceptable IMO. I returned my EA-AC87 and my RT-AC87U (got the RT-AC3200 instead) due to all...

    RT-AC3100

Only difference between this and RT-AC88U seems to be some red color in the styling (on the antennas) and the number of LAN ports. This has 4 instead of the 8 found on the RT-AC88U. I would prefer RT-AC3100 myself since I have no use for the extra 4 lan ports.

    [Maylyn - Networking] ASUS RT-AC88U

Very interesting. However I do not get all that ROG branding. A router is a generic hardware that EVERYONE can benefit from and a product with MU-MIMO (or Xstream for that matter) is more targeted at large household with many devices than a specific gamers need. I know many people with Asus...

EA-AC87 or RT-AC66 as media bridge

Well it is easy: EA-AC87 does not work with RT-AC87U when the latter is updated to the latest firmware (9177). It does however work with other 5GHz routers it seems.

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

9177 seems to work better for the RT-AC87U and other devices EXCEPT EA-AC87 which now cannot connect to the RT-AC87U. I have reset the EA-AC87 and during setup I can see other 5 GHz network but not the one on RT-AC87U with 9177 - even though I currently have phones, computers etc. connected to...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

I want both EA-AC87s connected to the router and I want to be able to transfer files between the two in the fastet possible way. I assume that connecting one EA-AC87 to one 5 GHz and another EA-AC87 to the other 5 GHz radio will give the fastest possible transfer speed between the two EA-AC87's...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

Thanks Tim. Okay so using MU-MIMO with 4x4 gives no benefit. That means Broadcom XStream 4x4 would actually be better for a combination with two EA-AC87 since you could locate each one to their respective 5 GHz radio on the router (or let Smart Connect decide)?

    ASUS RT-AC5300

No but a own two MU-MIMO "ready" devices ;-) I was actually considering investing in another EA-AC87 and if they would enable MU-MIMO on the Quantenna chipset (as they have promised) the two EA-AC87 would benefit from this. However although the speed of the EA-AC87 with the RT-AC87 is great, the...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

I totally agree. I will only trust a chipset vendors with the capacity to make their products compatible with a broad range of chipsets. And their whole excuse for not having MU-MIMO ready is lame since they could a least have made it work with their own chipsets. Currently I own a RT-AC87U and...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

I don't think 87U will ever work properly with the Quantenna chipset. Making a wifi chipset is about making it as compatible with as many adapter combinations as possible and larger companies like Broadcom and Qualcomm has more resources for making this happen than such a small company as...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Also problems with 5GHz I have had this unit for a month or so. In the beginning everything seemed fine and the unit itself is quite stable and solid. However 5GHz dropout DOES happen. It is worse with one of the laptops we rarely use where we have to restart the wifi. However with 2.4 GHz no...

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.2239

I have the exact same problem. I need to reboot the router constantly in order for my OpenVPN connection with the office to work. The problem started with 3.0.0.4.374.2050 and this version does not solve it.

    BIG UPDATE FW Version 3.0.0.4.220

I had same problem when I got a new router. This has nothing to do with RT-N66U - any router switch will cause the problem. I searched the internet and the answer is quite simple. WiFi location services works with the SSID and MAC address of the router. Whenever an iPhone or Android phone is on...

    AiCloud to debut on 9/7!

Look forward to it. But wait I will because I do not want to miss out on his excellent builds no matter how long it takes :-) @Merlin - Please do not feel this as pressure. Take your time. We waited long for AiCloud already so waiting a little longer changes nothing. And I personally rather...
