ASUS RT-N66U new firmware version 178

Yes there is. And when trying to se the TX power above 100mW the system refuses with the following warning: ETSI: max. 100mW for Europe, South America and APAC. Unfortunately it also this is also the case with RMerlins highly recommended firmware.

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

Very interesting. But I still prefer your version. Thanx for all the hard work and effort you put into this :-)

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

The AC66U and N66U have the same 2.4 radio and likely use the same driver. The big difference is in the 5 Ghz radio (which also includes the 802.11ac part). This chipset in AC66U is quite new and the drivers are not mature yet. But this only affects 5 Ghz performance as mentioned here...

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

I had the AC66U but have returned it and got the N66U instead. The AC costs twice as much in my country than the N66U and for that price I expect basic functions to work. But the AC66U was so buggy that it was unacceptable especially with the price tag. Enabling QoS resulted in the Wi-Fi not...

Asuswrt-Merlin - custom build of the Asus RT-N66U firmware

Yes it does. Merlins excellent firmware is highly recommended. It has all the features of Asus own firmware (which also has support for dyndns.org and others) but includes some extra usefull features and he has fixed some of their obvious blunders like no HTTPS administration.

Asus RT-N66U or RT-AC66U, which one to buy?

I am starting to regret buying RT-AC66U. It is very buggy and it seems the whole 802.11ac draft is far from the finished version thus making it a transition niche product. The RT-N66U is the popular router that many people own and has support of both DD-WRT and Tomato. This is the router the...

    N66U - Shocking 2.4Ghz performance all firmwares 3.0.0.3.151 and above ?

Interesting Huskypaw! My Asus RT-AC66U does exactly the same in Europe. It almost consequently connects with half data rate on 2.4Ghz 300Mbps becomes 150 and 150Mbps becomes 75Mbps. Buggy, buggy, buggy firmware! Even worse is that is on such essential parts that the firmware fails. In most...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Yes it is amazing. The QoS obviously does not work at all and instead they are focusing on some QoS GUI elements. Of course as a developer I know that some bugs are more easily fixed than others but in this case the QoS went from crippled to being completely ruined. Coming from the world of...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Confirmed on the QoS part! Turning it on completely ruins Wifi. Don't they at least tests the basics of their software?
