Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

A simple search across this very forum alone will show this to be untrue - quite a few others have the exact same issue, and I quoted a few before. A faulty unit would be a good possibility however what are the chances that I got 3 faulty ASUS units, as I did test with brand new ones too? Sure...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Netgear RS700 results in 700Mbps down and 400Mbps up on the 5GHz AX. Download is equal, upload is double that of GT-AX11000 (older hardware so ok I guess). Netgear RS700 results in 1,400Mbps down and 800Mbps up on 6GHz AX (WiFi 6e). Download is equal, upload is 8x the upload of RT-BE96U on the...

Hence I tested locally with iPerf and got the same results?

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Here's another interesting tidbit: I installed Ookla CLI on the NUC. It tests at 112 down and 800-ish up (ONT > Asus > NUC all hardwired). I also installed iPerf on my hardwired ATV4K and it tests at 950 down and 950 up to the iPerf server on the NUC (ATV > Asus > NUC all hardwired). This is...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

This is much more in line with my expectations. I am closer to the router and also testing on AX, from 2 Apple and one HP clients. I do live in a noisy environment though but on the other hand the router is a bit more capable and RSSIs, SNRs, and Noise levels are all excellent.

This is the exact same issue I am facing, and I didn't see that thread before, thanks

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Just re-tested with an HP EliteBook 845 G8 which runs Windows 10 and has an Realtek RTL8822CE adapter, capable of 866Mbps. Running Google speedtest I get 550 down and 90 up, running Ookla app on that same unit nets me 595 down and 92 up. You can see below that client is connected at full speed...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Why would the expectation be that your upload is a one fifth of your download, when you should have the exact same bandwidth and capability in each direction?

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

No QoS on the router and nothing on the clients (e.g. iCloud Relay is off etc.)

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

I just also re-attached my NUC that I have an i7 in with 64GB RAM and 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSD running headless Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS to the 2.5Gbit port on the Asus. Installed iPerf in Docker on the NUC and ran down / up tests on the MacBook and on the iPhone and got similar results: fast download, slow...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

I just did complete factory reset of the GT-AX11000 via control panel, afterwards wps hold, and afterwards reset via pinhole button. Setup 3 SSIDs from scratch and connected only my MacBook to the 3rd one ("SMTEST-6G") without changing anything at all, factory setup. Testing hardwired router...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

I dumbed everything down to Verizon FIOS ONT connected to GT-AX11000 (on WAN port) and iPhone 15 Pro connected to the AX SSID. That's it. That's the entire network at the moment. My testing environment is a NYC apartment with many neighbors' wifi networks leaking through the walls. I still get...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Further updates. It would appear that this problem is not unique to my situation, looking at similar issues with other ASUS routers: here, here, here, here, and here. Tried the Dual WAN workaround, that didn't do a thing. Also tried switching USB form 3.0 to 2.0 (I don't use USB), no dice.

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Well, I swapped routers with a new RT-BE96U (latest stock ASUS firmware) and tested on wifi 6e. Download tests on iPerf to the local NUC went up to nearly 1.5Gbps however upload is still not exceeding 100Mbps. This is on iPhone 15 Pro, a MacBook 16 Pro, and an HP laptop. Somehow I get slightly...

Gigabit Tx/Rx rates yet slow transfer speeds over wifi

Let me see if I understand you correctly. I am currently separating AX and AC devices as I don't want AC clients to slow down the AX clients. As I understand that AX, being backward AC-compatible, would have to step down transmission speeds to accommodate an AC client. The details of that...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

While I am troubleshooting my GT-AX11000, I was doing some research and am considering upgrading to a GT-BE98 Pro. I currently have 1Gbps symmetrical Internet, soon to be upgraded to 2Gbps symmetrical. A good mix of 2.4, 5, and 6GHz devices & few hardwired clients. At the moment, I have 3 SSIDs...
