I' ve quit the ideea of USB hdd to router and want to buy a NAS

Thanks for your help everyone. @Tech9 and @Tech Junky - I'm willing to take the plunge, but can you please send me an eBay link to a mini pc that can handle upto 4k content? I'd rather go with SSD as it would mean a more compact machine. @sfx2000 - You mean risk of it breaking down? In that...

I' ve quit the ideea of USB hdd to router and want to buy a NAS

Thanks very much Tech Junky. I've never needed more than a couple of terabytes of space on my PC...in fact even that's too much for me. 8tb would be way over the top for my needs. I'd say a 2-3tb hdd is more than enough. As said, I only want to use it now and again. One thing that would...

I' ve quit the ideea of USB hdd to router and want to buy a NAS

Thanks for your reply @L&LD I don't mind taking time to obtain an old PC and setup a NAS, so long as it doesn't cost, has better features than a Synology or QNAP. In fact I've seen a PC on EBAY and thought it would be a good bet. Let me know your thoughts.

I' ve quit the ideea of USB hdd to router and want to buy a NAS

Apologies for jumping on this thread, but I felt that since my circumstances are similar, there's no point starting a new thread. I'm after a very basic 1 bay NAS to share the odd files across my home network. Currently I use my Asus RT-AX82U with a 32gb usb flash drive. But it's a bit of...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Good morning guys. Well after trying different apps, I got sick of the whole thing and gave up. I think you're right that I shouldn't use a router as a NAS. I only want a single drive to put a few movies/tv shows on which can then be shared across multiple devices in the home. I'm not...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Thanks guys. I'm a bit nervous going for a fw which is experimental or as Jeffrey says does not support SMBv3. I'm going to try looking for an app, although not sure how this will make an actual difference. If you do know of an app name, then please let me know. In the meantime, thanks for...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Thanks colin and jeffrey. Unfortunately this hasn't worked and after pressing okay, it just gets stuck at a "loading" screen. I'm wondering whether a different android app would work or whether I could change to another firmware to resolve this issue?

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

:D:D:p Okay, firstly thank you for helping me. All seems well on the PC side now, however since setting up a username/password, VLC on my android tv is now unable to access the device media. I entered 'asus' as my login and then the password, but it keeps asking again and again. Am I...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Yes, that's the first thing I did. I've now also rebooted the router, but it's not appearing on the network anymore. However the black icon, as shown in post #03 is coming up under THIS PC > NETWORK LOCATIONS and is accessible, although it's read-only. Also under networks, the usb drive is...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

OMG, How stupid am I? Yes, you're right, I've been entering the wrong username. Sorry. I have now tried to access the network again to correct this. However it has totally disappeared and I can't see it anymore, so I'm not sure how to bring it back.

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Hello again Colin and thank you for your reply. Just to update you regarding my other thread - so far no issues with rebooting as yet, but will let you know if any issues occur. Your advice to enable SMB1 has really helped as I can now see the drive and TEST folder on the network. For test...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Hello Jeffery. Thanks for your help. No I can't access the shares using my router's app in windows explorer. Yes I have given R/W access to a Test folder: Yes Network discovery is on. I'm not sure how to check if the network is set to private or whether it's a firewall issue. Apologies, I...

Unable to see/access SAMBA on PC - Asus RT-AX82U with usb flashdrive connected

Hello everyone, I have connected a 32gb Lexar USB 3.0 flash drive (formatted to NTFS) to my Asus RT-AX82U. I appreciate it may not be the fastest option, but it's enough for me needs. However I'm having problems seeing the drive on my PC via my Windows 11 network discovery. It's instead...

    ASUS-RT-AX82U Router Randomly disconnecting

In that case, I totally agree with you and have now disabled the reboot scheduler. Let's hope we find the problem soon. Either way thanks ever so much for all your assistance. Really appreciate it. I'll keep you posted on any issues that arise. Take care.

    ASUS-RT-AX82U Router Randomly disconnecting

I just assumed that just like a computer needing a reboot now and again, surely the router rebooting at 3am in morning is not going to cause any issues, is it? In fact it'll clear up any dodgy bugs or clogging up software? No??

    ASUS-RT-AX82U Router Randomly disconnecting

Ahh right, I understand now. I thought my problem was due to the router clogging up or something, so to avoid these kind of issues, I have set the router on a schedule reboot late every night. Shall we let it run and see how it goes and I'll keep you posted? Thanks ever so much again.

    ASUS-RT-AX82U Router Randomly disconnecting

Thanks Colin. I've done what you've said, although apologies, but being honest, I'm not sure how this would have any impact on the router as it's my ethernet connection that are getting disconnected and not just the wifi. But I'm happy to give it a try and will let you know how I get on. Much...
