Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 beta is now available

Updated, hopefully this will solve one of my amcrest cameras occasionally falling off wifi which started with 388.2_2. Running smooth so far, though my RT-AX68U is only in access point mode and not routing so it's not a "challenging" setup.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

It's not that big a deal, but this message can be misleading. It appears when ports aren't at gigabit speed (100mbps or slower). Even a brand new device might only support 100mbps. Many (even new) TVs only do 100mbps, the Philips Hue lighting system bridge only does 100mbps, etc. In this case...

This USB Ethernet Adapter is dead.

They've gotten so much better in the past couple years. The Realtek 8156 chipset rocks; I have a Plugable branded one I use on my Macbook when at my desk and get pretty much wire speed 2.5G without any issues. There was a time when I would have hurled at the idea of using USB ethernet full time...

    Advantages, disadvantages of installation

Look at the feature list. If there's anything in it you want, use Merlin. For me, I wanted snmpd without having to use a USB thumbdrive. Then after installing it I found I enjoyed the little "quality of life" tweaks on the UI. I'm really glad I tried it.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 is now available for all models

Bit the bullet, upgraded my RT-AX68U today. No issues, Wifi working great. Though I am an access point mode user so not using about half the router's features.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 is now available for all models

There were some reports of extremely verbose logging on the betas. Is this still the case for the release? I'm going to wait a few more days to upgrade (too busy working on other stuff) but one thing I really love about 386.5_2 over stock is how quiet the logs are.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

Might be worth picking up a cheap spare router that you can quickly swap in if you brick the Asus. This way the fam is happy and you have better than phone Internet to research how to restore it. Always have a backup. Even if it's one of those shirtty bottom barrel routers with 100mbps, it's...

    Router shutdown script

Is the feature unreliable? I figure for a lot of people it'd be handy to be able to plug a few drives into their router to make them accessible on the network, especially for backups and such, if they don't have a PC that's always on to act as a file server.

    Router shutdown script

I can't try it now because I have stuff going on, but have you tried "halt"? The command exists, but I don't know how safely it shuts things down. On a normal Linux distro like Ubuntu it does a safe shutdown.

AT&T 20 gig fiber to homes

My very strong suspicion is that they're doing this for marketing reasons more than anything else. Very few people have home networks that can push over 1Gbps, much less 2.5 or even 10. If they can say they're providing 20Gbps, it gives a (probably false) impression that the network is robust...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

Excellent, thanks for the pointer, musta missed it the first readthrough. Anyway this is good, might just way for the release version anyway as the 5GHz bug hasn't been happening too much lately.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 Beta is now available

New user of Merlin here, running 386.5_2 release now on an RT-AX68U. Anyone try this beta on an AX68U yet? I have the bug that occasionally causes the 5GHz network to drop; supposedly it's fixed in this release but it's only happening every couple of weeks so I'd rather not upgrade if this...
