388.1 'sysstate' is chewing up memory

I noticed that process went away after a while. I have removed the swap file as I really should not need it, I am not using any ad blocker or skynet on the router itself. Thinking maybe once it started swapping it was causing a slow down since my USB is just a nano-size USB 2.0 thumb drive...

388.1 'sysstate' is chewing up memory

I have an AX68U. I have noticed since updating to 388.1 twice in a row now, after a day or so of uptime the router starts to run out of memory and is using swap space. Running htop shows sysstate is using 8% of memory. After I do a reboot this process is not even visible on the first page of...

    ad blocking

Probably going off more is better. I am using just AdGuard Home on a separate LAN server. I had Pi-hole and Unbound setup at one point and ran a bunch of tests, performance was slower due to Unbound, which is to be expected. Didn't feel worth it to me, AGH by itself does everything I want it to...

    ad blocking

Correct me if I am wrong someone, but wont setting that on the router just effect the upstream DNS the ROUTER itself uses? This will not change anything for the clients who get the two DNS servers via DHCP, they will still decide for themselves which one to use. The only way this would help is...

    Thank You @RMerlin

Thank you! I love how it stays relatively true to the standard firmware with subtle enhancements and upgrades.

Recent entware update stop some addons from working

When I ran the scribe force update it found some updated configs and updated everything, not sure what it did exactly but it didn't hurt anything and its working :)

Recent entware update stop some addons from working

I see on my router, syslog-ng and ntpd are going to be updated. What I found before at least on ntpd was the init script got replaced back to the default from the package instead of the one installed by the custom script. So I am just going to reinstall the ntpd and scribe (syslog) scripts after...

What does "WAN DNS Setting" do?

Unless the game is constantly reconnecting to different hostnames then DNS settings should not have any effect once connected and playing. Personally, I have DNSSEC turned on, and am also using DoT via AdGuardHome hosted on a separate LAN server. Pointing my DHCP DNS to AdGuard and left my...

    RT-AC86U replacement

This is the deals I am talking about, check the "used" section for "Amazon Warehouse" items. If the condition is worse than stated they will take it back. I have gotten things like this which were missing items not noted here and they took it back no problem. Usually stuff looks like brand new...

    Access restrictions list

Something else I was looking at recently was people talking about the DHCP restriction, some models only support 64 and others 128. Looked like the reason for this was NVRAM storage space (for the config variables to be saved). There is a script that moves the DHCP config over to a JFFS file so...

    2 clients are connecting...

If its not the phone itself as mentioned it is probably the range extender causing it. I used to see this sometimes when I was using one years ago with an AC56U which is why I asked about it.

    RT-AC86U replacement

Might be less popular because it is newer? I seem to be good at picking the least popular device though since I came from a AC56U. Interesting posts, looks like it is a firmware issue as people have reported certain firmwares which work when other firmwares had issues for them. I don't think...

    2 clients are connecting...

Do you have any sort of range extender or multiple AP's on your network? Or just the main router? Could also just be an old DHCP lease the router is still hanging onto but meanwhile the device got a new IP somehow so the router thinks it is connected twice.

    Access restrictions list

Ah, I have never used that feature. Are you worried that someone on your own local network is going to brute force your password and hack into your router interface? I could see using that if WAN access was enabled, but in both shots WAN is disabled so it should be local only.

    Access restrictions list

What access restrictions list? Where is it in the menu? Or screenshot? I am trying to think of a page that limits to just 4 entries and cannot think of anything.

    2 clients are connecting...

Are you connected to Instaguard while also on the Wifi locally? That might create a double connection but the Instaguard I think would have a different IP since I believe it connects via a VPN.

Updated my DNS Settings - DoT implications and DNS Rebind Attack message

All those domains he listed look like things that would be on a block list also, so thats my guess. I see logs, metrics, and ad domains. Did not realize that would trigger the rebind warning.

    RT-AC86U replacement

The best way I have found to get routers (and other things) is on Amazon, check the "Used" listings and look for the stuff from "Amazon Warehouse". Typically it will have very minor damage, missing a cord, or just the box is damaged or repackaged. They have notes on what is wrong with it and...

    RT-AC86U replacement

I went from an AC56 to the AX68 and love it. Sure the AX86 would have more power, but I don't really need it for my connection speed or uses.

Updated my DNS Settings - DoT implications and DNS Rebind Attack message

    1) Not if you set it to strict mode. Possibly uses the regular DNS to validate the hostname on the certificates for the DOT connection. 2) Not sure, probably not was my guess. Usually whatever one responds faster gets used the most. 3) Sending a DNS server via DHCP is a suggestion. An app or...
