    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Just followed L&LD's instructions above in post #123 (the quoted ax88 post) and nothing has improved. Download speed on the 5G band <1, on 2.4G ~50. I haven't tried the nuclear option yet but am not feeling optimistic. I checked the warranty status and of course it ended 5 days ago. Emailed...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Current Asus (non-Merlin) firmware. I did not reset, will try that next once I can afford to be offline for an hour or so!

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Thanks for the feedback, but I currently have SmartConnect turned off. When connected to 5G my speeds are abysmal, and everything is fine on 2.4G. Edit: or are you saying that because I was using SmartConnect before, it may have corrupted something that is still lingering even after disabling...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Argh, looks like the 5G band on my 86U is dying. To add insult to injury, this unit is the one that Asus sent me as a replacement for my last one, which had the 2.4G band die. Here are my new symptoms: I usually use SmartConnect and noticed lower speeds on some of my devices - checked the...

    Options for dead Asus 86U?

Think my case is a lost cause. Asus confirmed it's out of warranty and if I want to send it to them, I pay shipping + $35 diagnostic fee + repair cost. I have no idea what that would cost so don't think I'll take them up on it. I asked the previous owner if they had any case # or anything...

    Options for dead Asus 86U?

Yep, sounds like exactly the same problem! I'd have no issue paying for the return shipping if I could get this one repaired or replaced at Asus' expense. Given that it's out of warranty that seems very unlikely. My long-shot hope was that since the previous owner claims that Asus was going...

    Options for dead Asus 86U?

Hi all, A neighbor was giving away an 86U that they said had died and Asus was supposed to issue an RMA for, but never did. I picked it up to see if it might be something I could fix or possibly work with Asus to get that RMA going. It is in fact quite dead. When I power it on, the only LED...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

That wasn't my experience, the 2.4 band on mine died after a few months of use - forget how long exactly. My experience is somewhere in this thread, I believe. The replacement (refurb) system has been fine, although the other day the 5G band did disappear. I am hoping it was just a fluke, no...

    Laptop download speeds <1mbps

Hi all, My work laptop has recently started having issues when connected to my home wifi where download speeds drop to <1mbps making it basically unusable. My personal laptop which sits right next to the work laptop continues to get great speeds, up to 200mbps (my internet plan max). To get...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

I haven't but would be happy to do so, if there's any easy explanation of how to do it. I'm back to having some flakiness but I just can't put my finger on it. Right now all my Google Home devices are again unavailable in the app. Earlier today, everything on the Network Map was showing...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Yes - running back on the 86U again for now. I have seen some flakiness with the Google Home devices but printer has been stable. Will keep an eye on it for now. Also confirmed I am on the current (Asus) firmware.

I know you didn't direct this at me - but in my case it is already disabled.

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

I'm on my 2nd RT-86U after the first had the 2.4G radio die completely a few months back. ASUS replaced it with a refurb unit and I fear this one may be dying now as well. I was having problems with my Brother wi-fi printer (after months of being stable) so I decided to set it up from...

    Help with AC86 - 2.4G band vanished!

Update: Asus says my router is unrepairable. They want to swap it with a 'recertified' unit. Quite a bummer for a 3 month old router. Wonder if there is any way I can insist on a new one? Anyone been through an RMA like this and have any tips? Update on my saga: 12 days since ASUS said...

    Help with AC86 - 2.4G band vanished!

Update - working with ASUS on an RMA. They didn't even ask me to try any other tests or anything which leads me to believe this is a known issue. The 5G band has started to give me issues as well. Devices were failing to reconnect once disconnected. A reboot of the router has fixed 5G for...

    Help with AC86 - 2.4G band vanished!

Did a full factory reset/initialize and it looks like it's a hardware issue. Guess I'm about to find out how good Asus warranty support is. Edit: Just noticed there are a few reviews of this router on Newegg that mention the 2.4G radio dying. Seems like a somewhat common issue, unfortunately.

    Help with AC86 - 2.4G band vanished!

Yes, there is a MAC address displayed for 2.4G. I'll do a factory reset and see what happens.

    Help with AC86 - 2.4G band vanished!

Noticed today my wireless printer was offline for no apparent reason. When I rescanned for networks, my wi-fi did not show up. Rebooted router and printer, no luck. Disabled "Smart Connect" on the router thinking maybe that was messing up the printer (even though it's worked fine for...

AC86U client list and other oddities

I should have clarified in my last post. Yes, the NAS and UPS talk through a USB cable. So when the UPS loses power (and then regains it) it tells the NAS, which sends the alerts I get in email. As for the Sonos speaker, it's plugged into a non-battery backup outlet on the UPS. It just gets...

AC86U client list and other oddities

Yes - the NAS senses the momentary loss of AC power, goes to UPS battery backup, but then AC power is almost instantly restored. UPS only has NAS, router, cable modem, a Google Home Mini, and a Sonos speaker plugged into it -- shouldn't be overloaded from that, I don't think? The real issue...
