    I think it depends on the situation. I had a not-very smart device, that only used 2.4 ghz and it would ping pong between my AP and router if I set roaming assistant at -65 or higher. I had to keep it at -70.

    I don't get it. Asus has some sort of presence on these forums. I've helped test beta firmware. Why can't they at least tell us why a firmware was pulled? Seems like such a small thing.

    Just an FYI, if you turn off "Enable Port Forwarding" in the OpenNAT section, it also turns it off in the WAN->Virtual Server/Port Forwarding area.

    Ok..thanks.. Just wierd that it locked up like that. I saved my config this time. I don't think it was the USB device, because it wouldn't boot even without the usb connected.

    Ok..thanks for the tip. Yeah.. it was the laptop... It goes into Windows Modern Standby which seems to keep the laptop semi-turned on. Either the Asus doesn't like this, or this mode keeps the ethernet port in some up/down state to see if there is any traffic. Seems normal. Shutting down...

    Plugged and unplugged all cables. Looks like this is Port 3 on the Asus RT-AC86u (weird!). It's plugged into a Thunderbolt 3 dock for my HP Spectre laptop (directly not through a switch). hmm... Have to see if it's the cable, the dock or the switch port.

    I get notifications, but I noticed the same thing. The aiprotection page doesn't show the number of malicious attempts since I updated.

    Is AP mode reliable in an Asus routers?

    One unit as a router and one as an AP is much more stable if you have a wired connection. I use an 86u as router and 1900p as AP. Works great . Tried Aimesh. Had a lot of problems .
