[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Another AC66U here, also holding out on .43 for the wireless freedom. So far so good. All my entware packages work, wireless is normal, networkmap works, and the system log is positioned correctly. If this project stays current, I nominate this post for a sticky. Thanks dev.

    Asus RT-n66u as music player

That's bad butt. I use mpd on a raspberry pi in my car.

    tcpdump on RT-AC66U causes reboot

You could try installing strace and seeing which call causes the reboot. I suspect it's a kernel bug. Might help to compare to the old firmware too.

    Traffic Monitor Speed Measurement

    KB/s * 8 / 1024 = mb/s. * 8 is bytes to bits. / 1024 is kb to mb.

    Lost UI

Install nmap to find open ports on a device and go from there.

    Install Entware into /jffs

Yes it is, I'm doing it right now. It's been a while but I think this is the jist of it... Make a path in /jffs mkdir -p /jffs/asusware Symlink /opt to it (place this in /jffs/scripts/services-start too) ln -s /jffs/asusware /tmp/opt Then run these; cd /opt wget -O -...

IP Forward Using ipTables not working

It's likely because the client sent the syn to 10.10.10.10, but the syn-ack is coming from 192.168.1.106.

IP Forward Using ipTables not working

Since .222 is on the connected subnet (192.168.1.0/24), the source network card will ARP out for it. ARP is 1 packet asking everyone on the network if they are .222 and to please provide their MAC address for communication. If a device responds to ARP saying "I'm .222!" the source network card...

IP Forward Using ipTables not working

LAN traffic is switched, not routed.

Asus RT-AC66u NAT loopback is not working

I have a box in DMZ and I can access it from the LAN with the public IP: port. Also running AC66u.

    PS4 - Wifi problems

According to the data sheet for the WiFi chip in the PS4, it supports 5ghz. I'm hoping Sony unlocks it in a firmware update.... unless they didn't connect the leads.... :( Chip report http://www.chipworks.com/en/technical-competitive-analysis/resources/blog/inside-the-sony-ps4/ Data...

Start / stop guest wifi ssh

    1. 5ghz wl -i eth2 ssid --cfg=1 2. Not sure. Reboot? You'd have to look at the source code to see how the guest page brings interfaces/ssid's up and down the correct way. This method is just the quick-n-dirty way.

Start / stop guest wifi ssh

    Sorry I messed up. --cfg=1 not --cfg=eth1

    Turning Router Off @ Night

This is an age-old argument in the PC world. Turning devices on and off forces the device through thermal cycles. As it gets hot, it expands, as it cools down, it contracts. This could damage components after some time. The flip side is running the device 24/7 reduces its usable...

Start / stop guest wifi ssh

Kind of an ugly way. It will kill your wifi briefly. I have no idea if some clients can associate to a blank SSID, my android phone won't anyway. # Bring down guest network wl down wl ssid --cfg=1 <-- make sure this is the guest network wl ssid --cfg=1 "" <--- blank out the ssid wl up #...

Logging and reviewing user traffic that bypass OpenDNS

    1. -w filename.pcap will write to whatever directory you're in. You can change it to -w /some/path/like/usb0/filename.pcap if you want 2. No. But you can add & to the end of a command to run in the background 3. "killall tcpdump" works. Or "ps | grep tcpdump" then kill the PID (the first...

Logging and reviewing user traffic that bypass OpenDNS

edit: I reread your question. You want to know what's addressing the internet by IP only, that hasn't used DNS, and block that. ie. http://74.125.226.146 You can log http traffic with tcpdump. Install it from entware or optware. tcpdump -s0 -A -i any port 80 or 443 tcpdump -s0 -i...

    2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz

Go to system > wireless log and look at the noise and signal levels on the 5ghz band. If your noise is more than -80 (-79... etc) you might want to consider changing channels, the lower noise the better. -81 or better would be ideal. My phone refused to connect without a clean channel...

How do I block internal network connection to a NAS drive

Firewalls don't matter because it's on the LAN and it's switched traffic, not routed, which is where the firewall comes in to play. You can try a guest network (or VLAN'ing it out) but that will also remove access to the public folders. Some DLNA servers can be configured to only allow...
