    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

Brand new. Bought it about a month ago. 68U, not 68P. Can't find the bloody sticker, though. Cut it out and threw it away. Firmware/CFE locking should be illegal for manufacturers. https://www.snbforums.com/attachments/router-back-jpg.25062

    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

No, resetting default frequency values worked without factory reset. Got my original BogoMIPS back (=1998), no harm done. Back to 1000,666 :( Meanwhile, the router accepted all combinations of frequencies up to 1400,800 If anybody knows or finds out how to make these frequencies stick without...

    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

It's just the stock CFE flashed with the latest Merlin firmware. Bought it a month ago.

    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

No, I did not replace the CFE prior to overclocking. I just applied the code above, committing frequency changes to the CFE with asuscfecommit, as per the code mentioned above. Any hint, link, instruction on how to replace the CFE? nvram get bl_version returns 1.3.0.7 (this is stock/default, I...

    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

So what are my options? Just revert to default frequencies?

    Overclocking underclocks BogoMIPS? Pls HELP!

Tried to overclock my router, instead brought down my BogoMIPS to 10% of original values. And yes, it can be felt in the router UI, everything is much slower, CPU cores run constantly at +80% (before they rarely jumped over 10% in average browsing use) Stock frequencies: 1000, 666 ARMv7...

Another advantage of cooling everything to ~50 degrees: Now you can OVERCLOCK your router! Found a nice article with the instructions: https://www.lurch.uk/2018/03/overclocking-asus-dsl-ac68u-or-rt-ac68u/

How did you manage to overclock your router? I have the exact same model.

Yes, running an A/C unit 24/7 to cool THE ENTIRE HOUSE is preferable to attaching $3 fans directly to the back of the router and removing the plastic that restricts the airflow. That is a much better "hack"! </sarcasm>

Because I'm in Eastern Europe, and torrenting is not (yet) illegal, sanctioned or monitored. Basically everyone does it. Obviously I get faster speeds when torrenting directly on WAN, not trough a VPN. Yes, the russians & chinese ping my address, too, for some reason. I have the whole countries...

Oh, that one is clearly gone, even if you just install (screw in) the after-market product @Makaveli mentioned above, without cutting anything: For this, I have actually bought 2x AC68 routers (they were on sale): one black RT-AC68U, one white RT-AC68W, in case I f.up. I didn't, and since both...

I don't remember ever trying to sell you anything. You came here for what I had to offer, not the other way around. Please don't assume to speak in other people's name, just yourself. So far your arguments were not only exaggerated, unfounded but instantly conclusive, even when lacking any...

EXACTLY! And as others have mentioned, the radios fry faster, being more sensitive. You misunderstood, my friend. This is a brand new router. I did the modifications as soon as I got it, and I expect it to last me as long as possible, longer than the manufacturers intended, longer than any...

That's what the 2.0 stick is there for! Just for the scripts & logs. I have plenty of similar USB sticks for cheap, so don't care if they get ruined in time. So far the current USB stick lasted me 5 years, and still going! Could you please be more specific? Interfere how? Because I previously...

Yes, that design is where I drew my inspiration from :) However, if you notice the two fans are smaller (80mm), thous more noisy and less efficient, no dust filter, and they blow air ABOVE the alu cooling block inside rather than directly onto it, leaving the warm air leaving your router nowhere...

Multiple OpenVPN clients: run in parallel, serial or alternative?

I see. Yes, that makes sense. Thank you for the explanation.

Perhaps you are right. With the hardware modifications I made I doubt I'll ever see temperatures rise above 70 degrees C ever again. Still, I do believe the temp tab in the Admin page is a total waste of UI space, and it would look nicer and more useful on the landing page. Even without the...

Multiple OpenVPN clients: run in parallel, serial or alternative?

Stupid question: I still wonder if I run 2 OpenVPN clients: one on UDP and one on TCP, will my local clients switch automatically between them as per TCP/UDP request, or do they need to disconnect & reconnect to a new IP every time in order to switch between these protocols based VPN configurations?

Multiple OpenVPN clients: run in parallel, serial or alternative?

I think I begin to understand. Thank you for the explanation. Unfortunately right now the only PBR policy routing available won't let me set fail-over VPN connections running in parallel, which is what I wanted. I have to turn off & on OpenVPN clients in the list as one fails.

No termal pads. Just termal paste, spread out very thin and evenly on the active die parts (not the alu cooler). Also make sure to bend the convex alu plate (due to over-tenson when it was tightened too hard from the factory), into a slightly concave one, then be careful not to over-tighten it...
