RT-N66U and Asus Dynamic DNS ([myHost].asuscomm.com)

RMerlin; may I ask why you chose No-IP over ASUS's own service? The latter is (technically) easier to set up.

RT-N66U and Asus Dynamic DNS ([myHost].asuscomm.com)

I have also started looking for an alternative, preferably free, DDNS service provider, after having used the free DynDNS for years. I was able to get ASUS DDNS service to work. IIRC, it did not work right away, but after a few minutes, I was able to connect fine to my network from outside...

Cannot Access webui after a while - AC68R

I wonder if you are running any AV software. See this thread. From what I understand there is still no permanent fix other than the IP exclusion in the AV software.

    AC-66u problems with iPhone 5, 5ghz

I found that my iPhone 5 has a lot worse wifi sensitivity (2.4 and 5) than my laptops or iPads (3 and retina mini). It took me a while to realize this since the phone's signal strength indicator usually showed a good signal. After taking some measurements I ended up adding an AP to my setup. Now...

Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

    Notifications (E-Mail)

Sorry for this newbie question, but how exactly can I copy a script to this '/jffs/scripts' location? How can I access, e.g. view, this location in general. Do I need a separate tool/utility for it? (I am on a Win7 machine.) TIA!

Which One to Use as Router and AP?

    Will do - thanks guys!

Which One to Use as Router and AP?

I have an AC56 and an AC66 and want to configure one as router and the other one as AP on the same network. I was wondering if one would work better for router or AP duty than the other. I will run OpenVPN on the router and want to use the AC56 for attached storage, since it has a USB3 port...

Best Practice for setting up SSIDs on AP?

Thanks guys! I have been using different SSIDs and (manually set) channels for each of the bands and APs. It has been working fairly well. I will simplify a bit by using the 'same SSIDs for each AP' (but different ones for band, plus manually set channels). Let's see how well this works.

    Porting Configuration Files?

A reply from the 'man himself'. That settles it :) Thank you, RMerlin. (This means one could/should technically not even use this config file import method when swapping routers of the very same model. Interesting to know.)

Best Practice for setting up SSIDs on AP?

OK, that's how I understood him also. However, if I understood YOU correctly, you suggested using different SSIDs by device for the same band, correct? I have not had good experiences with Auto channel for 2.4 GHz, so like to pick them manually, after doing a survey. 5 GHz on the other hand...

Best Practice for setting up SSIDs on AP?

Thanks TeMpL. To make sure I understand you correctly, you are saying AP and router should use the same SSID, e.g. for 5GHz, but (potentially) different channels, due to the Auto setting, correct?

Best Practice for setting up SSIDs on AP?

I want to add an AP to my network and was wondering what the best practice was for setting up its SSIDs: different SSID than the one of the router => this way one can easily see where a device connects to or same SSIDs as the one of the router, but with different channels => does this...

    Porting Configuration Files?

I was wondering if I could use an existing configuration back up file from an ASUS router and use it in a different model, however both are running the same Merlin f/w. In case there are any limitations, the 'source' router is an AC66, the 'destination' router is either an AC56 or AC68...

In AP Mode: are USB applications still available?

As the titles says.... I am thinking of adding a second ASUS router to my network as an AP. I am leaning towards either an RT-AC56, RT-AC66 or RT-AC68. I would also like to use its USB ports to hook up an external drive and use the iTunes server. I was wondering if these features will still...

AC66u Web Interface Slow.. not slow... REALLY slow (2-3 min to load)

Jake; I am also a 'NOD32 victim'. In order for me to get the snappy interface back, I had to add an IP exception like Zeroskatr512 to the NOD32 configuration. A regular disabling of NOD32 was not enough for some reason.

Navigation in Router GUI Extremely Sluggish

Thanks bc. The workaround is OK for the moment, but I would like to see a permanent and 'real' fix from ESET soon.

Navigation in Router GUI Extremely Sluggish

rlcronin, you nailed it! I added the exception in ESET and the navigation worked fine. I took it out and the GUI became sluggish again. I put it back in, all good again! I only switched to ESET this weekend. Before I was using MS Security Essentials, but also had the issue there. Hmmm...

Navigation in Router GUI Extremely Sluggish

I just saw that I missed a 'not' in my post :o. In any case, I will try adding the exception. Maybe it helps. Thanks much!
