    FTP and partitions

I'm quite familiar with Synology NAS "Access-Control List" (ACL). I routinely give a user specific file folder access and 'hide' all other folders not within the file path. As you rightfully point out, 'No' (or none/deny) would typically mean no visibility as it does on my NAS, which was the...

    Asus RT-AX86S Random Reboots

I'm not going to say this is the cure, but I do know some electronics are more sensitive to in power cleanliness. Dell, for example will tell you to plug their computer power bricks into a wall socket and not a surge-protected power strip. So, on the off change (and I know this is a long shot)...

    FTP and partitions

It would seem so based on these Asus instructions: [Wireless Router] How to set up Servers Center - FTP Share The sticking point might be your use of disk partitions rather than file folders within a single partition.

    RT-AX88U Pro Blocking Internet Access

If I remember correctly, you can define up to 6 VLANs. I have 4. 3 are active. All are "Customized Network". Another way to deny VLAN internet access is to enter a bogus DNS IP. That should work for domain queries, not so much for WAN IPs.

    RT-AX88U Pro Blocking Internet Access

This is a known issue with the AX88U-PRO 102_33308 firmware. I reported it to Asus months ago. Try using a "Custom" Guest Network Pro profile(s). Right now, I believe you can block an entire VLAN from internet access, but not individual devices within the VLAN. So, if you want some devices to...

    Port Forwarding on VLAN

@Planters76 , @ColinTaylor is right. if you are asking whether an Asus PRO router can assign a ethernet (wired) LAN port to a VLAN (subnet), the answer is YES. "Port forwarding" is a different subject. if you connect a L1 dumb switch to a PRO router LAN port that has been assigned to a...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

Nice to hear there are other options. I've even considered migrating to an OPNsense box to get IPS and better firewall controls. Unfortunately, I need to keep things simple so someone else in my household can carry on if I can't. For now, that means staying with (for better or worse) AsusWRT FW...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

YES, in general. Setting up a VLAN on your 86U-PRO lets you assign a LAN port (wired) to a specific subnet. You define (assign) the subnet number rather than the router. So if you want a subnet that is 192.168.3.1, or 192.168.99.1 you can do that. In theory, you should be able to do the same...

Which Asus AX model to pair with my AX86U in backhaul?

Dare good question. As @bbhas pointed out, Merlin changes things. Asus-WRT 4 and 5 refer to Asus firmware. Not Merlin. I haven't checked to know if the same gen Merlin Firmware runs on AX86U and AX88U-PRO. But I will take @bbhas word that it does. But back to your question.... There are many...

Which Asus AX model to pair with my AX86U in backhaul?

Careful... The conventional wisdom is "don't mix Firmware class/generation". Most AX (non PRO) run the same AsusWRT (gen 4) firmware: X.X.X.X.388_XXXXX. But PRO models run AsusWRT (gen 5) 3.0.0.6.102_XXXXX. Now, if you are planning on running Merlin on both host and node, that might be a...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

Cameras, like other IOT devices, connect to the internet. That (many) receive time sync and firmware updates (some automatically). If they have a security flaw, then they are subject to hacking. If they are hacked, and you have 'trusted devices' on the same subnet (without device isolation)...

AC3100 Router with AC3000 Mesh node

Because they are close to one another, as an experiment, try establishing the node by ethernet cable. If still no joy, then issue is likely to be incompatable firmware. Many in this forum recommend that host (primary router) and node should be on the same firmware for maximum compatability...

AC3100 Router with AC3000 Mesh node

Hmmmmm.... 2 different routers running 2 different Firmware? Are you connecting to your node with ethernet cable or WiFi? When you try to establish the mesh node, how far appart are your routers?

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

I have not used Merlin. So others would be able to answer with more detail. My understanding is that Merlin's UI is very similar to Asus'. A few superfluous features are absent. Better features are included. Of note is Merlin's 3td party script capabilities which extend its capabilities. And...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

Yep. A router without VLAN support (of any kind) means the router only has one subnet for both ethernet and WiFi. It is for this reason I purchased an Asus PRO router. PRO routers are VLAN capable for ethernet and/or WiFi with Asus native firmware. HOWEVER, your new router does have GUEST...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

Congrats. It is relatively simple to "manually assign IP around your DHCP List" so that your new router will assign your camera to a specific IP. You will need the MAC address of your camera. If I am not mistaken, your AX 6000 has a default gateway address of 192.168.50.1. This means your...

Random cutting out of all internet, ISP says its probably my router (Asus rt-ax82u) (have system logs)

Start 'isolation' diagnostics... Next time you loose internet, disconnect ethernet cable from modem to router. Do not turn ether device off. Then, by ethernet cable, connect PC or Mac (or other computer) directly to your modem. Reboot your computer while ethernet cable is connected to your...

Wired IP camera/ NVR POE setup on a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34313

The answer is no limitation if I use Synology brand cameras. On other brand cameras, that are compatable with the Synology Surveillance Station, some features may be controlled by the Synology UI where as other features require logging into the camera UI.

What is LAN and How do I set up ?

I think you are missing an understanding of DNS (Domain Name Servers) and it's role in the Client > Router > Internet connection process. Just because a client types in a website domain name into a client's browser does not mean they ever reached it. Your router and DNS does a lot of...

@cheaponos I am running 6 POE cameras connected to my syno NAS running Synology's Surviellance Station (a software NVR). And my NAS is connected to my AX88U-PRO running Asus stock FW. So my setup is similar to yours. There are a number of way you can set up your system, some of wich are...
