    As mentioned before, clearing nvram BEFORE the flash is a redundancy since you're going to do it after the flash anyway (with or w/o errors)! And that's one more write cycle made to the nvram that could be avoided... For your own peace of mind, keep doing it as you please, just don't keep...

    "nvram data it doesn't understand" may be present no matter if you erase nvram before or not! That's exactly why is recommend after flashing in the first place.

    In version 378.55, the option "Enable jffs custom scripts and configs" should be enabled by default if not mistaken, but if you don't even have the option then something is really wrong! I presume you checked under Administration/System...

    You still have the option of using a Password Manager like LastPass or PasswordBox. Not exactly sure if it works with all of them, but there are reports that LastPass is working and I'm personally using PasswordBox and it works as well!
