RT-N66U - Less performance than expected on high speed fibre connection

If the PPPoE connection uses encryption/compression, that would definitely explain why it's so CPU intensive. You could use the BT Home Hub as a dedicated router, and let the RT-N66U be a wireless access point? That'll allow you to reach your maximum speed while retaining the excellent...

RT-N66U - Less performance than expected on high speed fibre connection

The BT Home Hub uses a Broadcom BCM6361 SoC, which has a dual-core 400MHz processor. That would make it fairly more powerful than the RT-N66U, so the problem could be a CPU bottleneck overall. You could see if this is the case by enabling Telnet/SSH access to the router, then logging in and...

    qos and voip questions

I suggest reserving highest priority for the DNS/NTP rule. I believe Asus ships with a web surf rule as highest as well. You'll want a ruleset that follows these steps: Highest - DNS/NTP only. High - VoIP, games Normal - Web surf traffic Low/Lowest - Web download traffic/BitTorrent/other...

Does any firmware allow a USB HDD to go on standby?

Asuswrt-Merlin will spin down drives during inactivity.

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

Do Victek's builds include 64K NVRAM support?

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

No, only ASUS and ASUS-derived firmware (think Asuswrt-Merlin) does (and ever will).

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

In my experience, using Shibby's latest v104 firmware, I noticed no significant changes in wired performance but wireless performance was quite lower than stock - stock firmware allows me to transfer up to 27MB/s over the 5GHz band, whereas Tomato seemed to top out at about 19-21MB/s. However...

Asus RT-N66U & Synology NAS Router

It would help to know what firmware version you're running on the RT-N66U and what band you're using for wireless connectivity.

    Slow client speeds behind Asus-WRT(Merlin Build)-flashed N66U

Is this over a wired connection or wireless? Do you have QoS enabled? If so, are the values for bandwidth correct?

Erratic Router UI after power failure

You could try reflashing the firmware to the router. If you're not comfortable using the web interface to do it, you could reboot the router into recovery mode and use the recovery tool to flash it.

    Slow client speeds behind Asus-WRT(Merlin Build)-flashed N66U

7MB/s should be more than achievable with the RT-N66U (the SmallNetBuilder review measured WAN to LAN throughput at 732Mbps!), but it is asking quite a lot of the RT-N66U to perform all the routing functions it needs to, run Transmission, download a torrent and save it to the external drive...

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

With some free time I flashed Shibby's Tomato once more and this time enabled CTF and frame bursting (which I didn't before). On 5GHz, about 20ft away and separated by two walls, I can achieve a max sustained speed of 152Mbps (this is on downlink). Not nearly as good as what stock firmware gave...

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

What kind of wireless performance is everyone getting from Tomato? On stock Asus firmware, it's possible for me to get ~216Mbps transfer speeds over wireless. On Tomato, I'm lucky to get 120Mbps as a maximum. Wireless performance is fairly important to me so I'm using stock firmware until I...

    RT N66U firm. 3.0.0.3_151

Has anyone tested to see if QoS in .151 cripples wireless upstream speeds? I know they're reduced due to the lack of hardware acceleration but does the bug still persist where wireless upstream bandwidth is throttled to the set value?

    FW_RT_N66U_B1_3003144 Released!

Sure, I'd love to do that. I've had this router for exactly a week though so I'm not sure what I'd do to contact them (I haven't worked out the ins and outs yet). Is there a direct contact or should I just drop an email in via their support page?

    FW_RT_N66U_B1_3003144 Released!

I can't speak for the 2.4GHz band, but on 5GHz I lost about 70Mbps in wireless throughput performance. Doesn't matter much since the firmware's been pulled but reverting back to .112 instantly restored the speed I was getting accustomed to.
