    RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_4950

What were ASUS' prior defaults for beamforming with the firmwares they released with it enabled? I see explicit and universal beamforming on the 2.4GHz band, and 802.11AC beamforming and universal beamforming on the 5GHz band. Did ASUS have all of these enabled?

    dd-wrt for RT-AC87R

That is an ever changing list of commits. It would be useful to have the specific hash from the commit the firmware was built on so that as time passes and RMerlin updates the firmware there is a clear indicator of what each build includes and does not include. git rev-parse HEAD will provide...

    dd-wrt for RT-AC87R

Can you share the commit hash from which this firmware was built? It's useful to determine what is included and what hasn't been.

    dd-wrt for RT-AC87R

Maybe @dfran1 should update the first post to reference the third post instead? It would save a lot of confusion I suspect.

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

Is hardware acceleration (CTF/FA) enabled? If so, the traffic bypasses much of the usual Linux network stack and therefore can't be measured. Tomato doesn't support the bcm_nat module which makes this possible, so traffic reporting remains possible there. You can disable hardware acceleration...

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

I left it disabled, yeah. The general consensus from the beta's feedback is that 5GHz had less issues with it disabled. I haven't had time to put the radios through their paces yet so I'll probably do a bit of testing with it on and off to see if there's a difference.

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

I just flashed this release and reset to factory defaults. Beamforming is disabled on both radios.

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

Doesn't make sense - the released firmware is bit-for-bit the same as the beta version (as verified by MD5 validation). There's no way that one build could have beamforming enabled by default and another one without - it would change the MD5 signature.

    dd-wrt for RT-AC87R

No issues for me like that on stock or Merlin's firmware. Have you verified via speedtest/ping test that the slowness issue is truly present and it's not a possible placebo effect?

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

As the checksums are identical it's safe to say that this is no different than the beta build and beamforming will be disabled by default.

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4608 - Just released!

The MD5s are the same: Beta firmware: f93939fae0175f07df97b1c653664e07 Released firmware: f93939fae0175f07df97b1c653664e07 Note to anyone flashing this firmware that beamforming is off by default (it is normally enabled). ASUS did say that it would be reenabled with a public release of the...

    PS4 LAG with test results!

Are you rebooting just the router? Or the modem itself? If just the router, try rebooting the modem as well (do the modem first, let it finish booting, then do the router).

    PS4 LAG with test results!

As myself and others on this forum have said, the PS4 connection test is not a reliable measure or indicator of any particular issue (like I have said before, my PS4 routinely takes 10+ seconds to perform the connection test and I have no issues whatsoever). I'm glad that your issue is looking...

    PS4 LAG with test results!

I see miniupnpd start up normally as per the boot process: I don't see it shutting down again. Did you check if the process was still running as @RMerlin suggested?

    PS4 LAG with test results!

As a side note, as I've mentioned before, your "lag test" is very inaccurate - there are too many external variables which vary greatly between tests and it's not a true indicator of a single issue, as it relies on the very inconsistent PlayStation Network to complete the tests. My PS4...

    PS4 LAG with test results!

On ASUS 3.0.0.4.378_4376 firmware: NAT support for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) (?): Yes This is with 11 days 21 hours 12 minutes 59 seconds uptime as reported by the firmware. Stock configuration + Adaptive QoS on and enabled. CTF is also still enabled. No lag issues in any games whatsoever.

    RT-AC87U 5GHZ BAND R.I.P

Were you not boosting the output signal strength past the limits set by Asus/Merlin firmwares with your own workarounds? The Quantenna chipset already runs fairly hot and close to the (now documented) limits of the chip - it doesn't surprise me at all that boosting past 100% drove the...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.51 Beta 1 is out

Sorry - misread. It would be a decent amount of effort to maintain a separate branch for just the RT-N16U and whatever fixes go along with it unless a fork like @john9527's opts to maintain support independently, but that will be up to each maintainer to decide.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.51 Beta 1 is out

He is dropping support for the SDK5 platform therefore there won't be any more builds for it, security fixes or otherwise.

    NAT Loopback and PS3

Games are the most common usage of UPnP in a consumer setting, so yeah there's definitely a benefit to using it. Alternatively, if you prefer security over convenience, you could configure port forwarding rules to allow the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network ports to reach the appropriate consoles.
