ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

I was on the 5GHz band - it was configured for 20/40/80 but still no luck. I took the router back and swapped it out for a new one - installed the same (latest) firmware and had absolutely no problems achieving a solid link rate. Also noticed a fairly significant boost in signal and the...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Agreed - I double checked the configuration last night however and it's configured for 20/40MHz. I will probably end up swapping it out tonight for a new unit.

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Yeah - I cleared NVRAM after updating to .3885 and configured from scratch without a config file.

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Has anyone noticed poor link rates with this router? I just installed it last night and updated it to the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.378.3885) - with an existing wireless N client, where it would link to my old RT-N66U at 450Mbps, this one links at 243Mbps at best, even when there's sustained...

Share What You Know: ASUS RT-AC3200 News, Release Date, Price and Expectations

You and me both. I'm looking to move up to AC from my RT-N66U as I'm starting to have AC-capable clients in the house now and this is the one I'm waiting for to make the jump.

    Advice: Asus AC87U alternatives

What about waiting for the RT-AC3200? You might find some use in "Smart Connect", automatically moving clients across bands based upon their expected performance.

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

jegesq raises some very valid and important points - and I want to piggyback on his excellent post to explain my view as well. Code theft is something I take very seriously. I had worked on (a now defunct) portfolio site for myself when I was looking for work, releasing it to GitHub under...

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

I hate to be this blunt but you're not sorry at all. You keep apologizing and apologizing and making promises you don't deliver on and even after this latest apology...still no source. Let me be clear with this. You MUST upload the source code regardless of its state. If the code is...

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

Dude, still no source code? Is it really that difficult to put your source directory in a zip archive and upload it?

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

Doesn't matter, the GPL license explicitly states that if you wish to redistribute the software in binary format, you must - without exception - provide the source code as well. Regardless of the intervention required to make it compile, you still must fulfill the license agreements. I'm...

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

IMHO this should be a massive red flag to anyone interested in using this firmware fork - one of the major benefits of using open source software, especially in circumstances like wireless routers, is transparency. It provides a sense of confidence that the firmware was developed in good faith...

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

"Missing time" isn't a valid reason to leave out sources IMO - you're still violating the terms and conditions you agreed to by forking the firmware and in some views committing code theft. Please upload the sources to GitHub or some other repository and provide a link to satisfy the license...

    CUSTOM/FORK RMERLIN FIRMWARE

FYI, distributing forked builds without source is a violation of the GPL terms under the original/RMerlin's firmwares - please provide a link to sources with your builds.

    "Smart" QoS

In the Web UI, ASUS states that simply enabling QoS sets online gaming and web surfing as the highest priority and are not influenced by P2P applications (peer-to-peer applications such as BitTorrent) but the user defined rules simply show HTTP(S) traffic by default. Does simply enabling QoS add...

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.2239

I didn't notice any slowdowns on 2.4GHz, I was averaging around 17-19MB/s (136-152Mbps) in the same conditions as my above post. There were very few instances where throughput suddenly dropped but as I'm surrounded by plenty of 2.4GHz networks it's not surprising to me and not something I'd...

    ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.2239

The 5GHz performance on this build is unbelievable. I tested a 945GB transfer from a wired gigabit desktop to my wireless MacBook Pro about 25 feet away, with a thin wall obstructing line of sight. I had to redo the test a few times with a stopwatch and do the throughput calculations myself...

    RT-N66U PPPoE low throughput

I think you'd need hardware acceleration to achieve those speeds already, but it's worth making sure it's enabled anyway. On a side note - I'm very jealous of the fact your internet speed is 23 times faster than mine. :)

Asus RT-N66U firmware for me? (need QOS + stability)

Asuswrt is a fork from Tomato, but Asus has modified it so far away from Tomato you could hardly call it a Tomato fork anymore. Asuswrt-Merlin is Merlin's take on the stock firmware. (As the name implies ;))

Asus RT-N66U firmware for me? (need QOS + stability)

I don't know if Merlin has fixed this in his firmwares, but Tomato is entirely different from Asuswrt and won't have this problem.

    ASUS RT-AC66R Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.726

Consumer routers don't have that much NVRAM available. An XML document would be far too large to store. Compactness is key.
