RT-N66U How do I remove someone from my quest network?

I wonder if MAC address filtering applies to the guest SSID as well? Denying them access via parental controls, however, should block their access to the internet - they'll still be able to associate to the access point, but they shouldn't be able to get to any web pages.

    N66u setup help

I have access to a few machines across Canada and the United States on some of the major internet service providers, and on every machine the ISP's local DNS was far faster (over 25% in most cases) than the next closest public DNS (usually Google's). Just because your ISP's DNS resolution...

Which wireless adapter should I buy to gain advantage of N66U

You could also have a look at Asus' EA-N66 adapter. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ZT23ZE/?tag=snbforums-20 It uses an ethernet connection between the desktop and the unit itself, which you configure with a web browser. I haven't used it myself but reviews seem promising.

    N66u setup help

If you are happy with the wireless range and performance of the RT-N66U, I would suggest ignoring joegreat's wireless configurations above. The default professional options are more than suitable for a standard setup and playing with any of those options if you aren't having troubles usually...

    Asus RT-N66U guestnetwork not possible

A lot of ISPs seem to be offering up router/modem combos instead of suppling just modems and forcing customers into using their offerings, and in some cases the ability to put these devices in a bridge mode has been stripped or locked away, only accessible by the ISP. I suspect this is why OP...

    Wifi Speeds

Wireless is a finnicky beast - sneezing can change the performance of your wireless network. (I'm joking, of course, but wireless really can be that sensitive). I'll assume you haven't played with any advanced settings (if you have, try setting them back to stock values). My best advice is to...

    Xbox live/ PS3 QoS settings?

QoS doesn't really have a "one size fits all" configuration. Every network is different, with different bandwidth available and different requirements. In the RT-N66U, you could provide the MAC address of the Xbox 360/PS3 to prioritize that entirely, or give priority to ports 53, 88 and 3074...

reliability, performance, NTFS vs other formats?

I doubt that's really necessary. ext3 really should be suitable for anyone needing to attach a disk to their router.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.270.24 is out

This isn't really a fix anyway, more of a workaround. Putting it in the DMZ moves takes most routing out of the equation and therefore the problem.

    ? Latest DD-WRT for the RT-N66U

As I remember from my days of using DD-WRT so long ago, the latest firmware is never necessarily the greatest. I remember some builds being so broken they would brick most devices. Usually whatever the recommended build is is the best one to use at the time.

    HW acceleration on RT-N66U

'Routing' doesn't actually happen over LAN, that would be switching, so hardware acceleration wouldn't affect LAN traffic.

    USB hub on the RT-N66U

Power limitations would be the biggest limiting factor I would think (the devices drawing more current than the single USB port can provide), but I couldn't see why a powered USB hub wouldn't work, besides any GUI limitations when having more than 2 devices connected, but I wouldn't know about...

    Changing wireless power setting

By how much do you plan to increase the power by? Higher output would mean a little more range but at the cost of increased radio noise, and subsequently lower throughput, so you could actually cut performance across the board by increasing the power output.

    FW 3.0.0.4.270 and new utilities

The kernel used in the router is aging pretty rapidly...to add support for newer modems, they'd likely have to backport drivers from the 3.x series of kernels down to a 2.6.22 kernel version, and that can be a pretty complicated task.

Compiling your own firmware - Possible for a non-computer science professional??

Well, not quite. Haha. GitHub's version of Markdown tries to syntax highlight inside code blocks automatically which didn't play well with some of the example git output I put inside them. I've fixed it this morning now however so all should be well. :)

Brand new RT-N66U - wireless connection problems

What firmware version are you running? Builds 246 and 260 had wireless driver issues especially on the 2.4GHz band. If you're not running build 270, I would suggest updating to that and trying again. For your wife's laptop, I'd also make sure the wireless drivers are up to date. I've seen...

Compiling your own firmware - Possible for a non-computer science professional??

First revision of the documentation is available: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Download-the-latest-source-code-from-GitHub Let me know if I've overlooked or didn't emphasize anything enough. I still need to tweak the formatting a bit, GitHub's markdown is apparently a bit...

Compiling your own firmware - Possible for a non-computer science professional??

No problem. I'll write up some docs tomorrow using your beta 3 as a reference point, then update it for the next stable tagged build.
