    qos and voip questions

DNS is the service that resolves URLs and such to IP addresses. It's good to have DNS as the highest priority as if DNS lookups are buried in a QoS queue, losing out to other services, it'll have a huge impact on the network (everything that uses DNS for lookups will suffer performance...

    Xbox360 wireless connection problem

I don't want this to target you specifically, Jeremy - but why would the support team give assurances that the next firmware update will contain the fix if it's not even confirmed yet when the fix will arrive?

    Xbox360 wireless connection problem

If you e-mailed them, you should post a screenshot of their response (with personal details omitted, of course). It'd at least be something to hold against Asus if the next firmware update doesn't solve it.

    ASUS RT-N66U B1 stuck on firmware 3.0.0.4.220

Good catch! I didn't even think of that.

    ASUS RT-N66U B1 stuck on firmware 3.0.0.4.220

See KevTech's post below before reading mine! That's quite odd. I've never seen a firmware fail to flash like that. You can put the router in emergency mode (power off the router, and then power it on while holding down the reset button until the power LED blinks slowly). From there, you can...

It doesn't load for me either. Looks like we've killed it!

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

It could be any number of factors relating to interference and such. My 5GHz band is totally clear of other access points, which probably helps a lot. Wi-Fi is a pretty finnicky beast at the best of times. I wouldn't jump to any conclusion and say your hardware is broken, however. Make sure...

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

Unfortunately that seems to be the curse of Tomato, wireless performance suffers dramatically when compared to Asus/Merlin firmwares. In locations I can get 30MB/s throughput on Asus/Merlin, I was doing as high as 19 and as low as 6MB/s on Tomato. Which is a shame, because I love the features...

    Asus RT-N66u with TomatoUSB firmware

Honestly, that's all I did as well. Make sure your wireless networks are using WPA2-AES encryption and your settings will match mine. There should be a link to the Transmission GUI in the firmware's web interface - that'll be your BitTorrent client.

Adding Dynamic DNS Support - NameCheap

If DD-WRT has it, then why not use DD-WRT if you're so desperate for it?

    qos and voip questions

If you're using the default ruleset, I would strongly recommend setting the web surf rule to a normal priority. Leaving it on highest would let it compete with VoIP and you'd risk call quality whenever someone was browsing the internet. It's difficult to prioritize BitTorrent traffic as it...

    qos and voip questions

You'll need to measure your upload and download speeds using a site such as Speedtest.net and enter those values in as upload and download, respectively. QoS needs to be set for YOUR configuration. Others' rules, while they work for them, may not work for you for a variety of reasons. My...

    channel problem

You shouldn't be using 20/40MHz channel bandwidth as it'll use up of more of an already crowded frequency. Interference will likely prohibit you from getting decently high throughput anyway, plus you'll be interfering with others' networks in the area. You should switch to use just 20MHz only...

    3.0.0.4.321 Beta Firmware for RT-N66U

Never mind...my issue is more different than I described. It doesn't seem to correlate with whether the device is sleeping or not...I was just browsing Twitter and it suddenly gave out for no reason. Wouldn't connect to anything at all until I disconnected and reconnected to the network.

    3.0.0.4.321 Beta Firmware for RT-N66U

This new firmware wreaks havoc with my Galaxy Nexus. As soon as the device goes to sleep it appears to lose the Wi-Fi connection, as when I wake it up the indicator will turn blue again from grey (meaning no connection to Google) and all my emails it should've alerted me about finally download...

RT-N66U - Less performance than expected on high speed fibre connection

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-boards-d33217gke-dc3217iye.html It has one Ethernet interface. The other model doesn't even have one specified in either the box or the motherboard itself.

RT-N66U - Less performance than expected on high speed fibre connection

You'd need a second network interface on the Intel NUC though (one for a WAN connection and at least one to go to a switch or directly to a machine). I think you can get Thunderbolt NICs but those are probably pricey and the NUC is pretty expensive as it is anyway.

RT-N66U - Less performance than expected on high speed fibre connection

Remember that the CPU architecture of a desktop-grade machine is different and likely provides better overall performance than the MIPS processor that's in the RT-N66U. That doesn't make the router's processor incapable by any stretch of the means. It's easy to understate how difficult and...
