WDS vs repeater mode

I have been following this thread but I am a little confused. I came across this thread trying to figure out one thing. I have an ASUS AC-56U and want to convert it to a repeater bridge. However I don't want to use DDWRT. Is it possible to create a repeater bridge for this router using Merlin...
