Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

Installed the new router yesterday mid-afternoon. All has been good except around 10pm when the DLNA connection was dropped (on the 5Ghz radio, the TV was the only device on it). The TV is 10ft from the router and the signals are very steady (I imported my old config). Everything was fine after...

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

Yes, the external drive does have its own power source, so no worries there. Its performance has been almost completely rock solid - we've watched stuff on the tv while writing files to the drive with no problems. I'm *extremely* pleased about this since it was a major impetus for getting the...

Will do, hoping Amazon will send a replacement first or something. Sigh...

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

Update - the router did it again. After unplugging everything, then plugging in the power and starting it up, I was able to reset it to factory settings. Something is up with the router - has anyone else experienced this? Even after reset the 5Ghz signal is erratic (either on or not, it just...

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

And the latest weirdness - just lost all connectivity and saw only the power light blinking. It would *not* reset (I held the the button in for 30s). I thought it was bricked and it felt hot. Finally after I unplugged the power, ethernet & usb cables & restarted it seemed to work normally. I...

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

The 5Ghz signal just disappeared from the router, and then reappeared without a reboot. Acrylic shows the signal to be much lower than usual and sporadic. Any idea what is going on?

WRT1900AC won't recognize external drive after reboot

It can, after I reset it to factory settings. I saved my config first so I was able to restore all my settings easily. Apparently something happened overnight, one of the kids mentioned the hard drive being inaccessible after I went to bed. Hoping it wasn't the router, it's been great so far.

WRT1900AC won't recognize external drive after reboot

Apparently the internet was out at 5am when my wife woke up. So she rebooted the router and when it didn't come back, she rebooted the router and the modem. (I'm going to have to lecture her about how it's the modem if the wifi is running properly). As of right now, the router does not see the...

Fluctuating Signals - what it means? how to fix?

Thanks, seems like the signals are nice & consistent now. I see how the Verizon router's signal fluctuates wildly, which is likely why DLNA performance was so spotty with it.

Fluctuating Signals - what it means? how to fix?

I thought the general recommendation was to avoid channel 6 since that's the default channel for most routers? I chose 9 based on what other signals I see: four on 6 (including the one from my Verizon router that I don't use) and one on 11. I just tried switching channels based on your...

Fluctuating Signals - what it means? how to fix?

Thanks - after some fiddling around I have both signals being fairly consistent. I've copied my settings here in case it helps someone else. My general findings are: trying different network modes & channels had the biggest effect. Setting the channel width to 20mhz was great for 2.4 but auto...

Fluctuating Signals - what it means? how to fix?

Hello folks, I've had our new router (Linksys WRT1900AC) for about a week now. It works way better than the old Netgear R6100 but in the last couple of days I noticed some sketchy connectivity with the 2.45ghz signal. Last night, after it seemed that no one in the house could connect to...

How to enable Fast Forwarding w/ a WRT1900AC?

I solved this via the Twonky settings at http://10.144.196.101:9999. Go to Advanced Setup -> Media Receivers - there you'll see each connected device's MAC address. Find out the MAC address for your tv and change the device type from Generic Media Receiver to whatever your device is (in my...

And ... it worked!!! Figured out the tv's MAC address, changed the device type in Twonky settings, restarted the media server and VOILA! Thanks @htismaqe for that link!

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

Ah @htismaqe - that link rang a bell. I found (somehow) a twonky config area at http://10.144.196.101:9999/. And Comment #5 in the link you shared shows a screen that I am able to access. I will try changing the device type and see if it helps!

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

@htismaqe - yes, when I accessed external storage connected to the R6100, FF/Rewind/Time Skipping were all possible. And the reliability was indeed crap, which is why I looked for a new router. Linksys replied to my question about this on Amazon and noted that the router does not support these...

Best 2.4 GHz router with storage?

@sfx2000 - thanks for that info but it's not actually true, at least not for my model TV (EH-something or the other). When I connect a thumb drive or hard drive directly to the TV, pause/FF/rewind/time search are all there. If it wasn't I wouldn't have been surprised at missing them when using...

How to enable Fast Forwarding w/ a WRT1900AC?

Got a Linksys WRT1900AC over the weekend - so far so good on the network front. Easy setup & speedy connections. The major reason I need the attached storage is play media on my Samsung smart tv. When files were shared off the old router (Netgear R6100) or from a computer, it was possible to...

I ordered the WRT1900AC yesterday, along with a new surge protector. And I woke up this morning to no internet, had to reboot the router :/
